It wasn't so much that Spurs contained Scholes better in the first half, I felt it was that they had more possession and Scholes was occupied with trying to contain them and the strong runs through the middle. With Rooney on in the second-half we attacked with intent and had more possession. Subsequently, Spurs became more compact and Scholes could sit-deep and move into the middle to move the ball around.

If the midfield around him had featured the energy of Cleverly, Anderson, Fletcher (heck maybe even Powell) instead of Carrick and Giggs then i'm willing to bet we would not have been so overrun for the first 45 minutes.

By Fergie's own admission, it takes Carrick 'until Nov/Dec to get going', so why he continually sticks with him is beyond me.

Not wumming here as you lot seem to get results throughout the season no matter who you have in your team.......however Rio is also getting on a bit so would also need replacing, Anderson may not be good enough he's been there a while and not performed and Nani is so inconsistent. Not going to argue with the rest as some look promising and some are good players.

So if you agree with what I say and also consider Scholes and Giggs need replacing when is this overhaul going to happen?

I don't hear much about youth players pushing for 1st team footy but I suppose I wouldn't know.

Like I said not a a wum just interested as I think you need 6 or 7 players to come in.

    No WUM/offence taken. It's a fair assessment <ok>

Obviously to the team that was posted, it was based on who is fit at present. To that lot, you'd add Vidic, Smalling, Jones and Young for selection.

I think the writing is on the wall for Rio. He offered better stability as last season progressed but he is far from as reliable as he used to be. Anderson is a question-mark for many United fans. We've seen some good stuff and indifferent stuff from him but his career has really been hampered by injuries. When he was fit and playing regularly at the start of last season - he was outstanding. And now we live in hope he is given games to find that form again. Nani seems to be looking for the door but Valencia provides a great alternative.

No-one is sure when Giggs and Scholes will be phased out, not to mention Carrick. Even when we managed to see it last season in August and September - we only ever seem an injury crisis away from being completely dependent on them again.

It seems obvious from the outside that unless you spend some money and replace some of the old heads Utd will fall behind the money bags clubs very quickly over the next few seasons.

Fergie is always backing the owners but it's the owners that need to back Fergie.

I agree with some, disagree with some.

I actually think one player will do it, as long as all of the rest of our squad is fit and injury free.

    Look at my post #14.

Add a centre midfielder of very high quality to that and our squad is sound. We wouldn't need to select Scholes or Giggs and Ferdinand would be back as fourth/fifth choice centre half.

Add Bastian Schweinsteiger (for example) to our current squad and we're back in business.

Yep, when fully fit just a top clas midfielder and we are sorted.

This talk of needed a rehaul is nonsense really.

However if Smalling and Jones cant stay fit a CB will be needed aswell.

    Yeah, true.

The proviso is that Jones and Smalling and Vidic are all fit and currently none are.

I think De Gea needs to start every game now. I saw him pluck a ball under pressure from the air last night, the clunge player had eyes on de gea not the ball and he caught and held it. Hes getting more and more confidence in his area and he needs to play PL games.

Smalling should be back after the international break aswell though I want his brought in gradually, 20 minutes here, half hour there until hes fully fit. Then he can replace Rio at the back. Vidic is 6-8 weeks away and if we include fitness levels it may be January before hes 100%. We would of lost him for the best part of a year by then. A massive loss.

I agree on De Gea, we need to stop pissing about and give him the jersey.

How long is Jones out for? He's got a long way back also I think. Bit **** really, the two most importent positions in the side and we're struggling with both.

And to think, we could have had Huddlestone and Dawson! It doesn't sound quite so bad an idea now does it?

Not that it ever was a bad idea, any fool could see that we are currently short in both those places. (except our esteemed manager of course)

Not a fan of Huddlestone but can see the sense in him. Dawson is a decent shout.

We have a midfielder coming in this January anyway, apparently. Some mexican chap.

Yeah well, I'm not entirely convinced that this Mexican will fill the 'of the very highest quality' criteria I was thinking!

I'm talking marquee signing centre mid here. A ****ing show stopper.

Both Huddlestone and Dawson would have filled gaps and proved extremely usefull and extperienced squad players. No brainer, in both cases.
They'd have cost the best part of **** all.

I have no idea who this mexican is, one of the better players in the olympics buts thats about it.

wish we would just spend £30million and sort it, wouldnt need to spend big for a good while after that.

I think that was Hector Herrera, looks a decent hard working player without being anything special but the price apparently isn't too high so he could be a useful signing. Rumors suggest that Strootman wants to leave PSV now too, he's a player I would love to see in a United shirt if it's true.

Yes that looks a lot more balanced and has some younger players in there. I suppose it goes back to the midfield and I agree, 1 top class midfielder and your in business. Who is that going to be and will Fergie buy him.

Yeah, like any of them would be even a slight improvement.

Honestly Luv hes right, none would imporve our midfield much if at all.

Gonna say our poor midfield is poor by our standards, its probably better than Liverpools and most other clubs. We are just used to having the best around I suppose. Keane and Scholes for example. High standards which even good, decent players look bad against.
