I'd love to see a quality defender come in (Dawson?), so we can afford to have M'bia in the holding midfield role. He's got all the attributes for the position and (hopefully) doesn't have Diakite's recklessness! For the really tough games we could have the two of them sitting in front of the defense, allowing for more adventure from the likes of Fabio and Bosingwa.
And thanks for the report Col! How was the atmosphere? it sounded quiet until Adel and Diakite came on to me. Were people calling for Hughes head?
What's condescending about that? You are clearly about to burst a blood vessel. My comments were not related to your post, but I forgot the way you like to run 'your' threads, apologies. You are right, a holding mid makes a difference, but if you have **** fullbacks you will always be on the back foot. Looked better last night because Spam were already intent on wasting time by the time Diakite came on.
It took Adel 84 seconds to do what only Zamora have managed for us this season, score. What about giving the guy 90 minutes?!!! I've said it before, we can buy whoever we want but we won't get anyone nearly as good as Taarabt. Not starting him EVERY game is the biggest crime imo.
Must have seen that s*dding goal 10 times now, including in slow mo, but still think he reacted a bit slowly and awkwardly to the deflection.
Again condescending. You have no idea what my current health situation is, so you're trying to put me down with a comment like that. Why comment on the thread if your comments aren't related to it? You seem to be the only one who has a problem with my threads. Why not simply ignore? West Ham had **** full backs and were by far the better side and very often on the front foot!
Exactly, he did the right thing and spread himself, something Kenny would never do and hence why he looked like a 14yo in goal, its luck if the ball hits you or not when its deflected that close. As for the atmosphere, it was poor probably because we could all see we were going to lose because of the team selection, it only piped up when the subs were made. Hughes is reminding me of Holloway, totally clueless and not even managing at a non league level.
Think you are responding to something that isn't there Col. I hope you are not really going to have a stroke or burst a blood vessel, they are just figures of speech to describe someone who is clearly very angry, as you said you were multiple times in your OP. No problem with that either, you are entitled to that, especially after last night. I like your match reports, they come from the heart. I see the OP as a starting point for a discussion that could go anywhere, you obviously think the thread has to be referred back to the OP, it's just a difference in perspective. I'll go on posting what I like where I like, been called condescending on here before, accurately on that occasion. No need to respond to this one.
I agree, but I'd better stop posting for a while or else I'll get accused of wanting to "run my own thread" by sb73 again.
But I will. Let's just call it a difference of opinion and leave it there. I take the point about the thread going anywhere, I suppose I just assume most will be about the OP as it's a match report. Having said that, I do make a lot of statements within the match report that can start debate....so fair comment. (Git!)
He did react in fact, but not quite quick enough, and clumsily. Funnily, believe it or not I think Green just may have saved that one, he is or was, good at reaction saves, with no time to get nervous thinking about it. In fact his very nervousness makes him twitch quicker than most, and he might just have got there! The close up of him after it went in looked like he thought he'd have got there anyway!
How many virtually identical 'Hughes is ****, the world will end if we don't win our next ten' threads does one forum need? I'll start the bidding at 27.
Look at it again then. 35th minute. Absolutely no doubt he reacted, he very nearly got there, was a fraction of a second getting his gloves to it, and did manage a shoulder on it. In slow mo you see it deflected first off M'bia, and then off Cesar's right shoulder as he moved up for it, and upwards into the net.
Great post col, but more importantly did you have a great birthday? There is clearly something amiss in the camp. As I watched the players warm-up I had a sense of deja-vu. I even said to my mate that it reminded me of when we played Fulham away last season, I could sense that the squad wasn't happy. There is definitely trouble at mill. Their body language just wasn't right. Anyway, this leads me onto the only moment of the night that I will elaborate on, as this set the tone for the rest of the game. In the lead up to the goal after Zamora gave the ball away, there followed a calamitous series of errors that led to the soft opener. Park did not track back quick enough on the flank, he jogged back as if he had just played 120 minutes. When he finally caught up with play thanks to Hill who jockeyed Vaz Te well and held him up, Park stood off in no mans land and didn't show any awareness to what was going on around him. At this point Vaz Te had nowhere to go. He was isolated and the only place he could go was down the line and try to beat Hill. Park was effective as me in the Lower Loft as he just stood and watched instead of tracking back and giving cover for Hill. As this stand off was taking place Noble made a 40 yard run from the heart of mid-field to assist Vaz Te. Initially Granero was marking him. Granero let Noble go, and Noble ran between Faurlin who was ball watching and Nelsen who tried to track Noble but was pulled out of position. This enabled Vaz Te to play a simple give and go with Noble and the attack was on. Vaz Te was fortunate that Hill's challenge somehow allowed him to retain the ball which he simply rolled back to Noble in the box. Noble's run for the second time in a matter of seconds was not picked up by Faurlin. Then followed an un-challenged flukey cross to the back post which saw Cesar go past the totally oblivious Onouha to try and cut the ball off. A soft header by Jarvis then somehow found it's way into the net. Onouha if he wasn't so inept should of been more aware and cleared the ball instead of turning his back on it. So there we have it. Four players totally unaware of Nobles run to help Vaz Te out. Granero let him go, Park who must of seen him coming and as he didn't do throughout the game as a captain should of shouted to Faurlin and make him aware. After the ball was layed off Faurlin never tracked Noble into the box. Even then if Onouha wasn't so stupid he would have gone to the ball and Cesar would of still been in position to gather Jarvis's header. Danger eliminated. What are these players doing in training that they can't get the fundamental basics right? I thought Hughes had them working these short sharp intensive drills to nullify this. What does he say to them before they step out onto the pitch that they start a game so seemingly comatosed? If you still have access to what I tried to describe above, have a look at it and tell me I'm wrong..........Over.
Col you have lost it mate Ok some terrible stuff but if you missed the 12th minute effort by Granero plus the slick play as well as the other chances albeit in a below average performance then I have to count this latest report as a form of over reactional emotion. I cannot accept this set of ratings but the story is excellent as ever. It's Hughes that is also getting us to play some of the best football we have played in years ... Grow a pair and have some faith because the opinions on here are becoming more clueless by the entry. You painted a very one sided picture which IMO is well off the mark.
Just watched it again, only Clint really worked, also yelling at Park who just stood and watched, Ale as well until too late and then he made only a half hearted attempt to get back to tackle Nolan before his lucky pass went to Jarvis. In fairness to Onouha he was covering the CB area vacated by both Nelsen who had gone out ineffectually toward TeeWater, and M'bia who had gone out ineffetually toward Nolan, and had no chance of getting out to block Jarvis. Now I'll go and find Adels's goal!
That post made me laugh. I did the same thing to console myself. That strike alone deserved a draw. As did Adel's pass inside their defence that I didn't read and I was sitting opposite it. Nice one Oslo.
