I follow the clubs where our players are out on loan, these at the moment being Forest (Ayala), Huddersfield (Vaughan) Yeovil (Korey Smith), Brentford (Tom Adeyemi) and AFC Wimbledon (George Francomb). The latter are struggling at the moment, but Yeovil and Brentford are mid table, and Huddersfield and Forest going well. Not sure what's doing with Vaughan. Started brightly with a couple of goals (and a missed penalty) but doesn't seem to have featured latterly and Grayson has brought in Jermaine Beckford on "emergency one month loan" and put him straight in the team last Saturday. Has Vaughan broken down again I wonder.
So probably many of those complaining about Vaughan's loan would now be complaining if we'd kept him!
well, difficult to say really dave, as at huddersfield he has been playing two games a week, so not sure we can really compare. he quite possibly wouldn't have picked up the injury had he only played once a week but of course, we'll never know! it was inevitable he'd pick something up at some stage. you don't get too many players playing all 46 games in that league.
I must admit Redruth that I noticed that at Lincoln. To go and pay money to watch football at that level means you have to have a love for the game. The last time I went they lost 2-1 and that defeat put them in the bottom 4. There were no shouts of ' Holdsworth out ' or choruses of boos echoing around the ground just a load of friendly banter laughing at the position of the Club tinged with a feeling of ' it can only get better. There were only about 1500 people there and you just got the impression that we were all there as a break between pub visits on a night out. Outside the ground there were people with collecting tins for a local hospice and I did notice that a large percentage of us put a quid in the tin. Even the solitary Bobby was sharing a joke with the supporters on the way out.
One of my most enjoyable trips over the last few year was to Yeovil. They had respect for us as top of the table even though they wanted to beat us. They had taken the trouble to read up about us as a club and individual players. And they wished us luck in the future and most admitted they had a soft spot for us over Leeds or Charlton. We stood on the terrace and sang our hearts out and witnessed a 3-3 draw with Doc scoring in the last minute and his celebration with us matching Tardelli's any day of the week. I don't have a second team but if I did Yeovil would be top of my selection. I'm not saying that all Prem clubs or their supporters aren't decent human beings but there is so much bad to say about football since the Prem evolved. I don't advocate the return of terracing or pie carts. Carrow Road has improved beyond recognition from the slum I used to visit. But the real magic of football has gone for me. The excitement and resolve are still there but then again something is missing.
It's often all too easy to forget there are a lot of clubs other than ours (or as Sky would have you believe, outside the top flight), that are supported by equally passionate fans and it does no harm to talk about these "other" clubs. Most of them are in a far worse than either of our clubs (hard to believe in your case maybe) but all the same, being a football fan (not just a Norwich fan) I always watch what is going on in all 4 professional leagues as well as the conference, all be it to a slightly lesser degree. There is a lot going on in L1 & L2 every week but it never gets a mention outside the immediate areas where the teams are concerned so it's now time to re-dress that balance I think quite a few people tend to forget just how many ex top 2 division teams (in the last 20 or so years) have found themselves languishing in the lower reaches of the football pyramid - There's 5 of them from the old 2nd division in the Conference today! Half of the current Conference league is made up of ex league teams!
And even worse. Whatever happened to Maidstone, Scarborough, Boston, Bradford PA etc? It is very easy to support a top club but it takes real effort to support a non league side who are on their uppers. By the way Redruth I hope Truro survive - wouldn't it be nice if the owner of a big club sent enough money for that to happen and arrange for a Supporters Group to run the club from now on. I'm just looking out of the window for the pigs to fly past!!
What a small world. Would you believe that before she bought the house in Robey Street she rented 13 Arthur Street. Never saw a plaque anywhere in the street referring to your previous occupation!!
So after last night! Championship Barnsley 0-2 Peterborough Utd was the stand out result for me (I like POSH a bit), recording consecutive wins - both away! Maybe, just maybe Leicester City can hang on up the top end? Maybe Cardiff City will come up at the 5th time of trying? and what the hell are Palace doing in 6th place? League 1 8 away wins last night and just 1 home win (Crawley - now in 3rd place) Stevenage up in to 2nd place Pompey win consecutive games, so there may be some hope for them and Coventry City get a point at home to MK Dons (perfectly reasonable point for Mark Robins) League 2 Gillingham back to winning ways New boys Fleetwood enter the top 3 for the 1st time Barnet now stranded in last place with a huge negative goal difference after Jamie Cureton beat them 2-1
A friend from college was a Cambridge fan.An interesting take on hooliganism at the Abbey.Apparently the away supporters went in what was called the "Allotment End".The home supporters would pull up cabbages and use them to mortar the visitors. The price of veg in our local Morrisons in could well be worth investing in a ticket when Luton play the local derby.
yes. charlie austin has had a phenomenal start to the season. burnley will do well to keep hold of him come january.
The Championship is much better to watch as a neutral as it is exciting and as someone else has said anybody can beat anybody. There is also some very good talent in the Championship which is great to see. Considering seeing Cambridge v Mansfield at the weekend. Know if I can pay at the gates?
FOURTEEN goals already! Good idea for a thread btw, Thai. Has anyone else noticed that they've stopped giving out the Championship scores at Carrow Road? I asked David McNally if we could have them again on twitter, but he didn't even reply. I hope that, now we're in our second PL season, we don't think we're too big for the Championship. We'll be back there at some point! I follow all three 'football league' leagues like most of you, but especially follow Brighton and Blackpool. Blackpool because I like their kit and manager, and Brighton because I'll be living there soon. Part of me wants them to stay down though - once I'm a student I won't be able to afford any one-off Premier League matches at the Amex!
Young Cloughie has had a couple of good away results at Forest and Boro.Don't expect they thought they would get more than a point from those two.
