Anyone know why Jakupović hasnt featured for the tigers yet? I mean not even a subs bench appearence. I dont know if he's injured or not
He definitely was injured for a while, he played in the reserves a couple of weeks ago and presumably he got injured again since then Good job Amos is doing so well really.
I find myself wondering the same thing. He's quite akin to Myhill; great shot stopper but lacks the distribution skills - He's certainly no Vito. He seems to be able to pluck the ball from the air if unmarked, but under pressure he punches and that's not a great trait as this league has plenty of players who can strike a ball from range. He's young so he has time to learn, but his kicking isn't great. Jakupovic has a decent pedigree and I'm quite stumped as to how a young lad we signed from Rotherham (who hasn't played in any games for us and has a disastrous injury record) makes the bench in front of him. Incidentally, does anybody know what our defending corners tactic is all about? Why does Faye stand right in front of Amos? It means Amos can't get to the ball to try and punch/grab and has to rely on his defenders to get it clear. The second Leicester goal was baffling, it's almost like Faye has been instructed to impede Amos as much as possible. I'd guess it's something to do with opposition players standing next to the goalie, but with all the protection keepers get from set pieces, is this Faye style barricade really necessary?
I'm really surprised that a couple of you are unsure about Amos. I think that from what we've seen so far, he looks like the best 'keeper we've had in years. Up there with Mannone. His kicking is a weakness but that's partly because of our tactics, he's obviously been told to kick it long, wide and as quickly as possible which will inevitably end in a lot of throw-ins. Last year under Barmby it was all about possession so there's no chance he'd be rushing into these wide kicks like Amos is. In terms of goalkeeping though I think he's done really well. I think his command of the area is brilliant - especially for a 22 year old.
I disagree, I don't think he's anywhere near the level of Mannone. He's ok, but I aren't convinced by him at all. I think he could have done better with some of the goals we've conceded.
How do you know ? Steve Bruce has not been asked about him from what ive heard and read but maybe Burnsy needs to ask the question. As for Bruce not rating him i would find that hard to believe when he has not been given a chance yet ? Maybe Oxley is working harder in training though. ?
I don't know why we're kicking it long when we have so many players who are good with the ball at their feet, we look much better when Chester or Faye bring the ball out of defence. Bruce obviously doesn't think that much of Jakupović if he's fit, yet hasn't made the bench for a single game yet.
I'm pleased Oxley's making the bench, how often is it a keeper comes off the bench to play? Rarely, if ever (unless Lee Bracey's involved!) so you might as well put a kid whose capable on there to get match day expereince. Oxley always stays late on the pitch when the team has gone in catching crosses etc, almost using it as an extra training session.
I've been amazed of how poor Amos has been when it comes to the general foot work. His strikes/kick are awful and rarely go where it's supposed, from what I've seen. I remember the game against Charlton away. He was absolutely bombarding the arena hosts/oldies in the section behind the goalkeeper coach (Miskicked it about 10 meters) every time. A normal kick from the goal area to the corner flag. He's doing a good job besides this, but it's really a big downside when it comes to getting the ball played up quickly. I'd take Mannone all day, but Amos is still a good option.
Jakupovic can't be fancied by Bruce because he is always in the reserve team so can't be injured. As for Amos, his shot stopping is as good as I've seen, particularly one on ones, however his kicking is poor. Surely his disribution can be improved and I'm sure it will
