He has had a good few games now and I am yet to see why he is starting over a lot of the other strikers at the club. Reminds me of Jo Kuffour post contract, the odd moment of class (generally when he doesn't have to work for it) and other than that lazy standing around waiting for the ball to land on his feet. The only player this year I have no love for. Opinions?
I agree with you partly, he is a good player has some class still there but he is past his best, is it just me or does he seem to play well away from home but when he is at home he don't?
Burton is at the end of his career. He still shows his excellent close control but there is not a lot of running left. He can be useful occasionally but does not deserve selection over Kedwell
I think Burton is good to have there as a back up but not as a main striker, also his problem is his pace, people know how he plays and that is why he struggles sometimes, I hope Kedwell is back in the team tomorrow.
If some of you had been at our away games this season you would have seen how good Burton's play and contribution has been - particularly at Port Vale last week. We have played a more passing game on our travels, and Burton's skills have been more evident than in our last two home games - where we have played very long balls from Nelson - in a way that gave Burton little chance to be effective. I have said that if we are to employ such tactics then we need to have Kedwell on the pitch ( his introduction v Rochdale was overdue ). I would like to think that Martin ALLEN will have admitted to some mistakes in team selection & tactics in our last home game, and address the situation soonest.
I think Burton is at his best playing alongside Kedwell. They seem to have a good understanding of each others game.
You know what they say Hoadie, form is temporary, class is permanent. He made quite a difficult goal look easy tonight.
4 in 9 games now. He'll do me! And he's been subbed in most of those, so probably only about 6 games-worth in minutes.
Unless they are playing up front on their own, strikers often do less running in away games than at home. It is quite understandable that a geriatric like Burton can be far more effective away than at home because his involvement is less. He could hardly have been less effective than at home on Saturday when he had a lot of chasing of lost causes to do in the first 45min.
I see Burton wants to take over penalty taking from Kedwell, not sure about this, Kedwell is a good penalty taker but Burton is supposed to be aswell. Maybe it should be home taker Kedwell, away taker Burton that way it is shared.
