And you'd be able to identify the victim so that the police could investigate, or would know where there was more evidence to be found than you saying it?

How many more ***** stories are gonna come out from the 70's, kiddie fiddlers getting away with it left right and centre from childrens homes to TOTP studios? How come they put more effort in to smashing football hooliganism then they did smashing *****phillia?
And without being able to produce evidence you'd be up on defamation and harrassment charges, losing everything you've got and he'd still be free to go about doing what he'd been doing, with the police now **** scared of investigating him in case they got done for harrassment as well. Look at it another way, assuming we worked together I could go to the police tomorrow and say we'd been having a drink in a pub and you'd told me you were kiddy fiddling. It's obviously not true, and as a result I don't have the evidence, but as the police how do you differentiate between a valid accusation and a made up one? It's not likely they're going to be able to go round and ask a guilty man and instantly receive a full confession.
It's the time lapse on this makes me wonder about it, the likes of Gambaccini just getting media exposure from the story aren't they, probably no media attention for years for him

Without a victim prepared to stand up and say what happened there's no case. Sometimes you have to bide your time and wait for people to make a mistake before you can get them. You get somebody going after someone like JS with no evidence to present all it does is discredit the pursuer, loses them everything, and then their failure to be able to do anything about JS puts future victims off coming forward.
My mate's been adamantly saying this for years and I always took the piss thinking he'd made it up. Maybe he was right all along...
Given there's been allegations, whispers and rumours for years, I reckon the ones that said nothing were in the minority. Unfortunately it looks as though the ones in positions of power were reluctant to push too hard. A bit of a different scenario to yours, but you've got to view these things in the era they were in.
As opposed to telling people who already knew. EDIT: As opposed to telling people who already knew that you thought it was happening as well but couldn't add anything that could be put up in court to help them make their case.
