In order, Arsenal lose at home, the Golden Boys turn it on and get 3 fantastic points at Huddersfield, my second love the SuperSpurs break the voodo and not only win at Old Trafford but get under the injury time skin of Sir Alex. To finish off the best of weekends we win the Ryder Cup in a fashion that in sporting terms is inspirational, even Mrs 46 watched it, quite remarkable! Doesn't get much better for me. Ole Seve.
I'm with you all the way there 46 - brought up to support Spurs in a Spurs family so unless they are playing Watford I always like to see them win - and the golf - well ... words are not enough
Agreed apart from 2 things - as my family are all from Islington, I cannot agree with the Arsenal losing bit, although more than happy about getting under old red nose's skin. Only other dampener was Them winning
Don't forget that the 6' 7" Watford supporter took 3 for in England's T20 win against NZ on Sat. A repeat performance against SL today is in order.
with you for the golf and the Hornets winning. The only downer is that Kiri has severe tonsilitis and is having to have blood tests
Why do so many Watford fans have Arsenal or Tottenham as a "2nd team"? There is only one team and they are the mighty 'orns!
I only have 2nd teams in other countries, FC Tokyo Japan, Colo-Colo Chile, Leon Mexico and Sevilla Spain (this was before the take over and I don't want to change it now) Udinese have sneaked in for obvious reasons but I don't like the Italian league much.
Same for me, I suppose - I follow Highland League team Deveronvale and Brisbane Roar in Australia. Deveronvale did on Saturday what the mighty Rangers couldn't do this season - they beat Peterhead, knocking them out of the Scottish Cup. And their reward is an away tie against Stirling Albion. Should be an easy passage to the next round though.
My ones in other countries are Hearts, because they played in KJs testimonial, Bordeaux as they're nearest to pie's Grandad (my ex-father-in-law, who I still get on well with) and Mainz - one of Watford's twin towns.
My name says it all really F.C. Cologne is my other team, though very much in second place. Lived in the Potteries for 4 years (Burslem) and went to Port Vale and Stoke City a lot - and still look for Vale's results.
I was brought up in Edinburgh & The Jambos were my team back then - probably the most successfull period in their history. The first ever football match I went to was their cup final win over Celtic - being one of a crowd of 133,538 is a memory that will stay with me forever.
I look out for certain results every week, two of which are teams that I have never seen play except on TV. One is my "local" team out here Chateauroux. I have been past their concrete stadium dozens of times and do follow their games each Friday on the live text reports, but have as yet never been to one of the games. The other team is Forest Green Rovers in the Conference. Something about a village team holding their own against town and city teams has a slightly romantic feel about it. I suppose it is a bit like Watford finishing 2nd in the first division. Two ex-Hornets are playing for them at present and to top the league above more than half of the others who have been in the 'proper' league takes some doing.
I used to go and watch Fisher Ath when they were in the Conference and played in Bermondsey, a 15 minute walk from where I worked. I also used to go and see Stafford Rangers when I lived in Stafford. Now I see Wellington Phoenix whenever they play in Christchurch. That is the closest I have got to supporting other teams. I must admit it used to be fun watching Conference football. It is probably not so pleasant now.
I am the same as you H, I don't have a second football club, it's just in the blood that there are some other clubs you dislike and some you look out for their scores. For me, as my old mum & dad were big Arsenal fans, I have an affinity for them over The Spuds. Mrs W_Y's family are all 'appy 'ammers and apart from a bit of family rivalry when we play them, I quite WHU. My Rugby club is Bedford as they are local and for cricket it's Glamorgan - for those who know me, the reason why is obvious!
My 2nd club would be Glasgow Rangers. My Grandad was from Glasgow and he would always try and get me to support them, but as a child growing up in Abbots Langley and then Oxhey, it was always Watford. I was born in Hannover so always look out for their result, and now look out for Udinese and Granada (let's hope the Pozzos start a pre-season tournament between the 3 family members, and rotate the host club!) I go to a few Salisbury matches a season, and always look out for their results.
Salisbury - Yes I've been thinking that a preseason Pozzofest would be good too. I'm never that good at being neutral watching games. In local derby's I'll always prefer the team in red over a blue team (except in Manchester & Milan). I have biases based on clubs owners, managers, players, style of play, fans as a whole, friends and foes who support certain clubs, grounds and even players haircuts. I know I should be wanting the best team to win and all that but by having a bias it does make non Watford games more interesting.
