And still, nobody will change my opinion that I thought he was poo on Saturday. We're all entitled to one so leave it there and stop dragging it out ffs.
except the fact Torres is a 50 million pound striker has absolutely nothing to do with Torres. He didn't pick it. Torres is a striker and can only be judged on contribution and/or results and not on value for money. The only way a player's cost can be considered a good value is against the commercial revenue gathered by the club for holding his registration. If you can prove that a single player was responsible for a team making the Champion's league then maybe you could link his price to the prize money awarded. When Barca won the Champion's league last they got around £55,500,000 in prize money and TV revenue combined. They had to pay out around £23,800,000 in performance bonuses. So a ballpark figure profit of £32 million. So even if you could find one Barca player responsible on his own for winning that cup, if they cost more than £32 million you'd of lost money. This ridiculous scenario depends on winning the most difficult European club competition. Torres would be beholden to be solely responsible for winning two euro champion's titles due to his price tag. Chelsea would need another one to pay for Hazard!
Torres sells shirts, he works hard for the team. Blah blah. Sorry, lads, but boo hoo for Torres. We've supported him through thin and thin for 18 months. We've built a side around the big baby. It is time for him to deliver 20 goals. No more excuses.
Yep, he doesn't. But I bet he has no problem picking up his half a million every month does he? I'm not holding Torres solely responsible, I just don't rate him in the slightest and I think some people need to accept the fact he's never going to be the player he was at Liverpool, it was even clear he was declining before we signed him. All this bollocks about 'build the team around him' makes me laugh too, as if he's bigger than the club or something! Feels like some people would rather see Torres score than Chelsea score... Just my opinion of course, neither right nor wrong, just what I think and I shouldn't be shot down for saying how I feel.
Totally agree, if he manages to get 20+ league goals I'll happily applaud the lad and eat my words. It just annoys me how if this were any other player, with the record he holds with us, he'd be out on his arse in no time.
He only had one decent 20+ league goals season at Liverpool, when he was a better player than he is now, so I can't see him netting 20 Prem goals for us this year.
I'd say this Torres offers more than the Liverpool Torres tbh, would rather have our Torres than the Liverpool Torres, the Liverpool Torres was just one dimensional all he could do was score. Much more to his game now we have turned him into a more all round player, his lost a bit of pace but he more than makes up for it as he actually plays mainly as part of a team for us as opposed to just standing and waiting for the ball, he starts 90% of our moves. We'd be ****ing **** without Torres. Look at the Bayern game, soon as he came on the attacking threat went up ten fold and the corner he won led to Drogs goal, before that we barely offered anything in attack
Torres shone on Saturday because he had the likes of Mata, Ramires & Oscar supplying him a great service he has so rarely had in his time at Chelsea. Long may it continue.
We were losing, of course we had to attack!! Little to do with Torres more to do with the game plan of sitting and trying to counter going out the window. I don't think Torres is a bad player, far from it, but I seriously can't see how you think 'our' Torres is better than the one at Liverpool. He was f-ing frightning to play against at Liverpool in his first couple of seasons, one of the best number nines in P.L history for a while. He just doesn't have that at the moment. But he is still good enough to lead our line, we will just be more reliant on midfield goals than Liverpool were.
After watching the game on Saturday, I thought Torres was brilliant, help ball up brilliantly and allowed the likes of Hazard, Oscar and Mata to create around him. Ever since his move to Chelsea you cant his work rate, he's not played bad, he just hasn't been able to score. Now that team has added more 'footballers' it can only do Torres favours. BTW, How good is Hazard? First 10 minutes he conceded 8 fouls, because the Arsenal players simply couldn't get the ball off him.
Spot on Bev. I'll never criticise players that work hard, even if they don't produce the goods on a week-to-week basis. One of the reasons I can't stand Malouda and was never a fan of Anelka is because as gifted as they are/were they never fulfilled their potential due to their poor work rate. I could be wrong and Ray Wilkins could sign up to 606 and tell me they are the hardest trainers and strived to improve every day but I doubt it.
