    Virgin Money have gone public with the news that their current sponsorship deal with Newcastle United is to end next May - one year earlier than had been thought.

    The present agreement with Richard Branson's company came into force in January of this year and had been expected to run until the end of the 2013/14 season.

    However it's understood that the football exercised their option to terminate the deal at the end of this season - having concluded a new sponsorship agreement with an as yet-unidentified third party.

    As well as a new name and logo on our shirts from next August, the change does also raise the possibility that naming rights for St.James' Park have also been sold as part of that new contract.

    =====================================================================

    wonder if Ashley is going to have sports direct on the shirts now as he has it on everywhere else

    "NEWCASTLE United have announced that their sponsorship with Virgin Money will end after the last match of the 2012/13 season.

    The deal, which was signed in January 2012, was due to run until the end of the 2013/14 season.

    The Club expects to announce a new sponsorship deal in the coming weeks, which will start after the last match at the end of this season."

    So, who do we think the new sponsor will be?

    We could do it with an Airline company. The Etihad and Emirates have payed well to both their clubs.

    It'd be nice to see this again, but I highly doubt it'll happen.

    They still sell beer around the world. Heavy Metal bands at gigs constantly make references to Newcastle, the home of one of the nicest beers.

    I suspect we may find its Sports Direct. I hope not and it wouldn't seem logical given they could have done this from the outset but the way Llambiarse has described it, "......which represents an excellent commercial deal for both parties", just makes me think "don't start moaning, get over the chav branding, the money is good". Maybe I just expect the worst after the comical/stupid decision to try and change the stadium name.

    Would be an absoltue travesty if its is SD.com but if they can produce figures that make fair financial sense then I would over look it but would not be happy.

    If the club are actually benefiting from it then I have no problem with it being Sports Direct. If it's just Ashley putting it on there for free then that's not on.
