In all fairness, Suarez has grown up a lot since his Ajax days, especially this season where he has yet to dive and his just picked himself up after challenges. I can count at least 3 times he should have been awarded a penalty already and we're only 6 games in
I'm not sure that the Norwich one was a penalty. It could be argued that Suarez stopped deliberatedly to get the guy to run into the back of him. I'm not even sure the Laws of the Game are clear on that situation - indeed they are unclear in general as they define a 'careless' tackle to be a foul without saying what that means.
Yep. Retrospective bans are the way. Refs should also be able to book/send off players for crowding round them - take a leaf from rugby's book.
I havnt seen that particular incident but im guessing he waited for the contact then fell over. Unfortunately the way people seem to think now is that if theres any contact, however small, then its always a penalty
To a degree but the refs are likely to get a bit suspicious with the way he throws himself to the floor. Refs don't have 360 views and slo mo of every incident like the cameras do and the way Suarez went down under the contact from Johnny Evans with a half twist, no attempt to stay on his feet and appealing before he's even hit the deck makes it very hard for the ref to give unless it was blatant contact made because it's obvious to everyone that his reaction was not caused by the contact, if any. The Norwich one was a bad decision but from what I remember, I don't think the ref had a good view of the contact so it's difficult to give, especially when the player cries wolf so often. I think refs were told to keep an eye out for diving last weekend too, there was no sympathy for any players going down easily and only 1 penalty given in 9 games.
http://watchhighlightsonline.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/video-luis-suarez-penalty-claim-suarez.html Watch it and tell me where SUarez "draws the foul". Clearly he was bloody elbowed.
The defender clearly elbow chops the top of his sholder. Only Suarez knows if that was enough to knock him over, but it looks a penalty to me
It's not the elbow, which does nothing, that is the penalty, the Norwich player clips Suarez's left foot as he prepares to shoot. I think it says something when even Gerrard only puts in a half assed effort at appealing, he probably assumes Suarez is diving too.
What's all this about deserves? It's about us the folk paying to see the game. Surely we want accurate decision making regardless of reputation. There is bias, there is payer bias there is team bias there is home bias and there is crooked refs. The latter the main reason for technology being delayed in football. In the end some decisions cannot be defended by officials. Henry's double handball against Ireland where replay shows the lino had a clear view and he WAS looking. Ukraine goal not given in the Euros.. cos a bee flew in front of the officials face < Explains away clear corruption of an international tournament and is accepted. League football is far more susceptible to corruption. If you want to find it. Only some is down to reputation is what I'm getting at, most is not. United didn't get a penalty against Spurs mainly because of the attention to their penalties of late, without that I think they'd have got one against Spurs
Bit rich considering Asley swallow dive Youngs diving nearly won you the title last year. That would have been a title won on pure cheating if justice was not done with Aguero scoring for City in the last minute.
Arguing with refs is frowned upon, and rightly so. Now it's a negative thing to suit some twisted opinion Maybe Gerrard just done the right thing, got on with it? He clipped his leg made contact in his back and made contact with the arm, penalty all day to even the blindest linesman
Are we talking about Youngs 2 dives that everyone keeps banging on about and that ALL United fans have said he is an embarrassment over and needs to cut it out?
Saying he cries wolf so often is totally inaccurate. At least try to keep an ounce of truth in what you post. He was fouled twice against United. Both penalties could have been given. Considering some of the stuff Bale pulls off I fail to see why Suarez is so bad for same, arsenal fans remember Pires, yet did not hate him for it. Rooney an awful one for it, did chelsea fans hate drogba who was prolific. Suarez is labelled such because of where he comes from as much as anything else, diving is rife all over the pitch in the modern game. Chelsea dived more times than I care to remember in their last game. They have picked up two yellows in two weeks and really should have had 4 yellows for diving already yet all talk is of Suarez
fouled twice v United? Evans, not a penalty, sky had to use the hubble to show the tiniest touch and Suarez went down like he had been hit by a cannon. what was the other, please dont say Rio
It's a problem in football in general and one difficult to solve as players are not going to change. Anyways, Liverpool rarely surround the ref like that in the Manchester united style cos we get players sent off, only united can do that
Frowned upon? Most big teams do it at will. Gerrard has never been shy about letting the ref know his feelings, I'd say it's a more twisted opinion to suggest that he has become a reformed character and was merely being respectful to the ref. Anyway, it was just a thought that maybe Gerrard didn't think it was a penalty either, or at least didn't see very clearly what happened.
Kicked in the foot and pulled down, yes he made the most of it, but that served many well. Suarez' problem is that he is a sh!t diver
