no ban required and no ganging up required. Simply just learn to ignore or challenge him ... he's a cross dresser everyone has a weakness. Dish it out then be prepared to take it. In the past I have ignored any abuse thrown my way by Swords and he's hated it and given up, so perhaps people should try that.

If he's been given numerous warnings before and ignored them, then he should have a life ban - as Brix has said he has blown his final chance.

 

Any poll on this subject is a joke, what's to stop the poll's subject voting on it via as many sockpuppets as he can be bothered to create.

Racism: Well having witnessed full on comments during the Euro's by many on here towards the French I still think that all these bans are hypocritical really. My girlfriend is Jewish and she has a hooter

What's up with the moderation?. The homophobic abuse yesterday was way over the top and that's coming from someone who thinks homosexuality is wrong. As for one slur on Jewish people and then a ban what's that about and when will the same standards be applied to other faiths?

What's the difference between a sock puppet and a coalition?. Of course polls can be affected most are as. Anyone involved in campaigning against anyone (albeit a strange cross dresser from the Emerald) should be neutralised. I am sure the Mods have a good enough dose of wisdom to see who complains as I imagine they have to act on that?

DT, the mere fact that this thread has as many views as it does only proves that Swords influence over this board is certainly greater than any one poster should have. And perversely, by commenting as you did on Imaz's post, you're proving THAT point as much as any of your own.

Nobody should need to fight their corner as much as some people on here have had to do with Swords, because he's like a rottweiler with a severed arm when he gets going, and he makes himself impossible to simply ignore. If left unchecked, you will end up with about five posters on here - you, and four of his aliases. If that's the board you want, then it's probably something you should go set up yourselves.

Simple fact is that he drives other members away with the tone and content of his posts. He over-steps the mark time and again with his comments, and has been banned multiple times for it. It looks as if he's a ***-paper away from being banned for good. Some will see that as a bad thing, others will see it as welcome relief.

Nobody can argue that it won't have been self-inflicted.

I like most of Sword's stuff. He's a colourful character and gives me a welcome laugh at times. I've never found him racist - quite the contrary in fact - over the Euro's he was virtually a lone voice disagreeing with others that Eastern Europe was a den of violence and visiting football fans were at risk. He proved to be right.

He does shoot from the hip at times, and while he is quick to apologise, sometimes the damage has been done and he's shot himself in the foot. I leave it to your excellent judgement how long the ban should be, but I'll welcome him back particularly if he can moderate his posts going forward.

Ok...here's my opinion and i hope it doesnt upset anybody..

firstly...Massive respect to Brix for re-opening this debate and asking for opinions. It shows why you are the man you are and one of the best mods on any forum I've ever visited. For a mod to stand down and invite opinion is not only un-heard of, but quite simply amazing...well done.

Imaz. I know you and swords have you battle, but as an outsider ( and a black person) i think you may be taking things a little to personally. I say that after growing up in London in the 80's and am quite numb to the racism around me. i learned to deal with it in other ways. I'm nit saying you are rong, but personally I wouldn't take it the same way. Its your choice / decision.

As for swords, I didnt see the posts concerned so cannot comment on them. Personally i like his posts and find him quite witty and well informed. nyone who says he posts before thinking is an idiot. He knoows exactly what he says and a lot of it is to provoke a reaction...ALA this thread.I'm no angel but when I've done wrong, appologise, do my time and move on...as per Cerny. I think, if he has earned himself as montths ban, then let him serve it out. If he screws up again, then its 3 months them permanent...

i'm not gonna debate or question Brix's decision or the length of ban. i do think though, there is a group after him and if he;'s stupid enough to take the bait then thaats his fault.
If he does go, or is got rid of..I, for one will miss his posts.

Queens, much of the battle between Imaz and Swords was VERY personal - and was deliberately so. I think you are being harsh on Imaz here, in expecting someone to react to what is seen as direct, personal, racist and religious abuse in a light-hearted, shrug-of-the-shoulders way.

It's good that you can do this. Others can't do so, and shouldn't be expected to do so - especially on what is supposed to be a football-related board.

 

A troll only does what he does for the reaction. If everyone put him on ignore, he would get bored with no reaction and then go away.

He should be banned permanently as hes already had many last chances.

 

There was a piece on the radio over here last week about a teenage girl who took her own life due to cyber bullying, now I'm not saying that swords is a bully, but the contributor on the radio said that people type things on discussion boards that they would dream off saying to somebody face to face. Personally i feel that is the problem.....it's anonymous, you can basically say what you want and you can not see what effect it is having of the person on the receiving end.

If we all just paused for a few seconds before pressing the send button to think...would i actually say this to somebody face to face...then we would not be having this type of discussion about swords.
