Yesterday well in the 1st (2nd half was a different game as Everton just consolidated their lead) half the distance between our defence and midfield was too great hence more pressure than need be , the goals we conceded were down to consistent pressure from Everton , something had to give , and our defence can not cope with the high crossed ball at all and the 2nd phase from that as well , we are too slow and Yoshida a number of times yesterday found himself in the left back position as Clyne was wandering up the pitch . The players for us to buy would be bare minimum acentre back and a left back of high quality , we should be looking now , not ones god the future ones for now .
Gee Wiz listening to you lot go on about players and systems comes across as the only ones that have football knowledge is just you lot and nobody else. I'll guarantee there is not one of us on this Forum is equal to the experience of NA. Now I accept that he does not always get it right. I will also accept that to us there does appear to be weaknesses in our defensive system. To pull each others hair out over a loss is just plain bloody ridiculous. Everton are a good team this year and are playing well. We are all naturally a bit fed up with all the goals going past us and rightly so. You cannot bury your head in the sand and say it ain't happening. Just as it ain't any good stating the bloody obvious, so we don't need to be reminded of the negative side of our game. For goodness sake lets actually be open and talk about the game....without vitriol's or hand bags. They were all good goals against us. The way I see it is the mid field didn't do there job properly for one, Richardson made a mistake for another and possible either of the centre backs for yet another. In truth if you watched the game We made at least three errors and did not get away with it. They made the one and paid. Lads and lasses that is bloody football we are going to get beat by a lot of teams some of the team have got to start earning their corn. Heck though we are going to beat a few as well....just hang on to your hats we will get there.....trust me! This is saints we are talking about.......Which is never easy for their supporters......COYS
Fair points ,but a forum is for all to air the views they hold and if we all agree you might as well shut down the site.People must be allowed to state things as they see them .There is a lot to admire about our team even with the obvious frailties at present but most posters want the best for us even people who point out the negative stuff. My electrician once pointed out that he is usually positive ,occasionally negative but always down to earth sums up your average saints fan really.
4231 is a quite a versatile formation and it's the formation I wanted us to play when mentioning 2 cdms. You can control the game or counter with it. For example a lot of top sides have used it regularly ..sides like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich , Manchester City, Man United both to dominate at home and counter away.. 2 CDMs sit right back and give the 4 players infront more freedom. It's how we played against Villa (Morgan, Davis CDMs) with Lambert up top and Ramirez in a free role behind. Lallana left and Puncheon right. You can tighten the formation up and play on the counter away from home. I expect to see most of the top sides go to places like Everton and use 2 cdms, 5 man midfields and hit on the break
I guess none of us should debate anything about the team then and simply report club news. They aren't heated debates, no one wants the job or is claiming they'd lead Saints to the title here. It's simply a football debate and discussion. The actual point of a football forum is to discuss football. It's why it's often so much more fun to debate sport with northerners as they are far more relaxed and interested in discussing in depth matters of the game without falling apart when there are conflicting opinions. gomarchingin is very negative at times and i see people slagging him off a lot but at least he has an opinion and makes the forum interesting this...lol...
With a comment like "what we have unfortunately in my opinion is not good enough to sustain our survival" it sounds like you have given up. Let's hope NA and NC haven't. OK, if you go back to my original post, I did ask what you would do with what we've got. Your incessant refrain is "we should have...". Well, we didn't. So, with what we do have, what should we do?
This is why you get on people's nerves goingmarchingin because you make statements thta re factually correct (i.e. we do need defenders) but make out that nobody else (including NA) realise that; what makes you think we are not looking now? (please don't say that you haven't heard Nigel say it) and this post was meant to be constructive by the way.
I could not agree with you more........For me though some are continually stating the obvious and being drawn into hand bags and vitriol's. You replied to me with out the need for either so why is it so hard at times for some others to do the same? It is healthy to have differing opinions as you correctly point out it would be boring for it to be any other way. I would agree there is a couple on here that I am convinced are disagreeing just for effect. Heck though you don't have to bite, as hard as it is not to at times.....
The problem with your argument there is you counter attack with pace , of course you knowing football would know this . Quite possibly Villa afforded us space as they wanted up get back into the game ?
This guy has a very valid point. Although he hasn't put it in the best terms possible, Clyne is not a left back, our defence has been poor and is costing us points and Fonte has not been good enough this season.
Can you explain this sentence, I seriously don't understand it. Are you saying I don't get the point of the questions that need to be raised? I don't think you'll get any answers to your questions. Can you try answering my question for a change please? I'll type it again below: "what makes you think we are not looking?"
Unsure about your Fonte point really at the games I've been to (four of the six). Clyne has played left back in 1.5 games. I don't think many people on here think our defense has been good enough (18 goals suggests it isn't), but what is gomarchingin trying to say that is different to the defense has been poor overall? What answers does he want to these questions he keeps mentioning. The questions that whenever someone puts up a response he ignores. He keep asking for answers about why we haven't signed more defenders. I'll try again to give some answers (I think even he thinks we did try): 1. Clubs didn't want to sell 2. Clubs did want to sell but asking fee was higher than we valued the player at 3. Clubs rejected our bids 4. Clubs accepted our bids, but players wanted higher salary than we wanted to pay 5. Clubs and players accepted terms, but other parties wanted more money that we didn't want to pay 6. Father Christmas said it isn't good karma if you get everyone on your "I want" list Have I missed any other possible answers? If I knew Nigel Adkins, I'd really want to ask him to give gomarchingin half an hour of his time, in the vain hope he wouldn't keep harping on about the same thing. It really is quite tedious, made worse by the fact that everyone on here knows the defense needs improving!
My theory is, that the fact is we keep losing, if we didn't do that the posters would have to moan about something else, the answer is for Saints to win a couple of games in my opinion, I may be wrong what do you think?
I am not convinced tha NA is aware of how unhappy we become when the team don't get results, he should be told in no uncertain terms that it is not acceptable for the team to keep losing even if they are not as good as the opposition. What do you think?
I understand that NC has a dream of Champions League Football soon after getting promoted, he needs to wake up and sort out the present, we need to learn to walk before we try to run, then just maybe the future dream could come true, doesn't he realise that some fans are very impatient for instant success, to be instant we want it now.
the pedant in me thought it was Champions League Football we've had Championship football. I think 12 - 15 games in, we'll have won a few, drawn some and lost a few and in and around the relegation mix, but settled into life at the top.
I feel that some of our fans are not worthy of being Saints fans, they don't have the bottle for it, obviously you don't have to be mad to support Southampton FC, but sometimes it can help. What is your idea of a perfect Southampton Supporter, what attributes do you need to qualify?
