I couldnât believe I was reading some QPR fans calling for Mark Hughesâ gloriously grey head after the 3-2 defeat to Reading that saw QPR exit the Capital One Cup; the same fans that were urging everyone to be patient after seeing a near complete upheaval in the Rangers squad. Itâs not been a great start for QPR. Theyâve been outplayed by Swansea and were disappointing against Norwich but there have been some good performances; the Champions League winners found is very uncomfortable at Loftus Road. The Premier League champions found themselves having to fight harder than many thought they would at the Etihad and Spurs were being bossed around for most of their fortunate victory. Still, I read one fan say âGood performances are not good enough anymoreâ. QPR fans are always being told that they have to be patient, Rome wasnât built in a day and all that but a lot of fans are getting anxious, and maybe rightly so. I personally can see the positives in recent performances, Esteban Granero has formed a pretty awesome partnership in the middle of the park with Alejandro Faurlin, a partnership that Iâve started calling âGraulinâ (pronounced Growlinâ). Julio Cesar looks like an inspired buy and Junior Hoilett is starting to find his feet. Iâll be happy with beating the drop again with a team thatâs attempting to lay down foundations for years to come A QPR fan with any grasp of their history wonât be unnerved by this auspicious start. Life as a QPR fan is indeed a rollercoaster, if youâll pardon the cliché. Theyâve fought their way into the top tier of the game, theyâve escaped from the clinches of owners that didnât give a toss about the fans and theyâve beaten the drop in their first season back. A few fans were hoping for a push for Europe and some other fans think that a mid table finish should be nailed on but Iâll be happy with beating the drop again with a team thatâs attempting to lay down foundations for years to come with being able to attract star players, a stable manager and a good youth system. The fans that are calling for the axe to drop on Hughes should be careful what they wish for because stability is what QPR need and have needed. Hughes needs backing, not sacking but I think the majority already knew that, right? http://www.sabotagetimes.com/football-sport/qpr-why-hughes-should-be-backed-not-sacked/
My thoughts on this is, I've been thinking this man is a myth for a while. H.I.C.C But the fact is, he's the horse they've backed, and it's a long term thing. So whether we rate him or not, we do have to back him
I feel exactly the same way He is our manager and unless he loses the dressing room we have to back him to turn it round
Agreed. No choice for the reasons given. Fact is though, markets are results-led and thereby fickle. The slightest shudder of doubt inevitably causes quakes of confidence. Players score goals (and get dropped if they don't). Managers are responsible for ensuring points... Of course we don't want a continuation of Briatore's revolving door. We're depending on Hughes to live up to that clinical management image of his. Hope he sorts it. What's the betting he won't?
Excuse my ignorance as I probably should know what H.I.C.C. stands for... but I don't. Suspect it's obvious... but not to me!
You're not exactly backing him with your H.I.C.C. in your sig are you? You give very mixed messages when it comes to MH.
I go with the writer for backing Hughes if we are pretty sure that we are going to just beat the drop again. I was not one of those tipping us for Europe or mid-table security this season but for a 16th if I remember right, certainly my guess was that we would end just above the drop zone. Trouble is right now we are bottom, and if we remain in and around the bottom 3 in November our chances of surviving will be very doubtful. Bearing in mind the funding made available to Hughes, and his over-cautious approach, I won't be backing Hughes if we are in this situation then.
you are going along with backing sparky because you have no choice in reality...admit it. you would all change him for Harry if you could. He is a rubbish manager where ever he has been and if your chairman keeps him then he has no ambition and happy with championship football because thats where your heading....I believe you have good players that are worthy of a mid table or higher finish but in all honesty looking at sparky's track record last season and this season so far then your backing a dead wood in sparky and most of you know it.....
If we were a little provincial county team with a decent manager, a big team like Liverpool might nick our manager
He's not been a rubbish manager wherever he's been. Far from it. Given the performances and results of your lot now that the scouts have had a chance to suss you out, I'd say you have at least as much to be concerned about.
It's just not true that he is a rubbish manager. As Wales manager, beat Italy in 2004 and only missed Euro qualification in play offs. Blackburn. Top 6 and qualified for EUFA and three FA Cup semi's. Man City: City finished 10th in Hughes' first season with the club, as well as reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. City's home form was among the best in the league, but their away form was among the worst. Also brought in great players like Lescott and Toure that are part of the current City backbone. Fulham. 8th place and Europa League football. Now, if you want to enter a mud slinging match, that is fine. However, when you make broad statements that are not even remotely supported by the facts, that just makes you look utterly stupid. It is a marathon, not a sprint. Could it be that Swansea has started off a little too quickly and may hit the wall too early? There is evidence for that!
so you want to go down then...OK by me one less space to fill and gives us a better chance... your funeral..
Are you serious with that comment? Really? Look at his track record - i can only assume you havent. He consistently got Blackburn into the top 10 - even europe - now look where they are. He hasnt finished outside the top 10 at all (bar half of last season with us). And he did a good job at city and was unfortunate to be sacked. It is unfair to challenge him on last season (well half a season) as he inherited a squad with no confidence and had not been tactically guided all season. He did the job of keeping us up - that is all that was required. At the end of this season we can judge him on HIS team.
That is a non sequitur. If your original assumption was true (about Hughes being a rubbish manager), then indeed we should be worried about relegation. However, since you are wrong about Hughes as I've tried to show you, we have no need to worry about relegation any more than you do. We are one win and a couple of draws off you in points with 32 games to play!
Judo, I've tried too but it's just that Swans: QPR thing. Sometimes causes temporary mental dullness. Sometime not temporary!!
