I adopted my monicker as a tribute to Argus, the match reporter for the Echo in the 50's. My mother was a cleaner for the family at his home in Whitburn and I met him on several occasions as a kid. At the time, we didn't have a telly, just Sports Report on a Saturday afternoon and I thought he was the most informed footballing person on earth.

    Syd,

I also named my shops after him. It's fair to say they have achieved a bit more success than my club though.

Anyone that went to Roker park on a regular basis should know where the Blind Corner was, at the right hand side of the Roker End , so called because when there was a full house, if you were unfortunate enough to be there you could only see half of the pitch.
I first experienced it in the famous draw against Spurs in the 6th round of the cup in 1961 I think it was , the crowd was about 61,000 , that was the game that the Spurs captain Danny Blanchflower said that the Roker Roar was the loudest thing he'd ever heard .
I managed to see the Sunderland goal scored by Willie McFeat and never went back to the Blind Corner again.
