what you said was abit ridiculous.firstly you said if those 6 races were declared invalid he'd be leading the championship.the problem with that is,its about what you do over a whole season,so what you said is like saying "if those first 6 races were declared invalid in 2009 he wouldnt have won the championship". button had the blown diffuser last season,that helped him massively with balance and grip.this season he doesnt have that,that is why he keeps complaining about poor balance and lack of grip.he has been outqualified far too often by lewis this season,and isnt being thrashed because of the bad luck lewis has had.his performances only started to improve after he saw lewis's data. in 2011 jenson had 0 chance of winning the championship.lewis realized he had 0 chance after quali in monaco and completely lost his mind.so for me lewis made things easy for jenson to beat him.this season however lewis has been back in form and jenson has looked poor.if you look at jensons quali performances it would look like the car was only 3rd or 4th best for most of the season. jenson cannot win a championship in a tight season,he doesnt have the speed required. but in a dominant car he can.lewis has got 3 of the last 4 poles and should have won 3 out of the last 4 races,so jensons been lucky in many ways. if mclaren allow things to continue till the end of the season,i can see lewis getting far more points than jenson in the remaining 6 races. if however mclaren decide to just focus on jenson and forget about lewis,then things wont go so well in the last 6 quali's and races for lewis.
does perez have the required speed?he's been outqualified by koba 8-6 this season.and he only seems to gain places in a race when he starts on fresh tyres. when he start races inside the top 10 on used tyres,most of the time he goes backwards in the race.
what do you mean by "button stepping into lewis's shoes"? is button going to all of a sudden become quicker and put the car where in should be in quali?

Why do you have to turn everything into Jenson vs Lewis? By stepping into his shoes i simply meant he would be the one expected to lead the team and my first comment as i said was not an excuse or a way to say he's been good this season just a sign that if (big if i accept) he could maintain current form its possible. Oh and if Lews "loses his mind" every time he has no chance of the championship then there's going to be fireworks at Mercedes.
Anybody going on about 'Jenson v Lewis' is falling into the same old media laid trap we have had in F1 since 'Hamilton v Alonso'. There is no battle or emnity between the drivers it is all about the team. Why do people buy into this sensationalist rubbish, try and look beyond what people write in the Sun and online forums. Hamilton has left because his pay demands were not being met. This happens in sport all the time. If they paid him the cash he would be more than glad to stay. Brawn has a great track record as a team principal and boss in F1 so he might give Hamilton a chance of a winning car in the future, or equally he might not. Mclaren have cut their costs and got a driver in who will bring revenue to the team at the same time, which is pretty sound business. All this crap about driver v driver is really completely irrelevant.

Surely he has to go in to this knowing there is a high possibility of failure. Maybe that will help him cope with the anticipated struggle that it will be in the first season or so.
Or even maybe, he signed a deal with Red Bull or another really good team in 2015 or something. And he's going to a lower team in which he could still win in to get his patience and slight hotheadedness to where he needs them, to help him in the long term win championships?

If Lewis "loses his patience" at Mercedes "like he did at McLaren" he would be lucky to get into a top team ever again. He would of pretty much flushed his career down the dirty toilet even before he hit 31 as he burnt every bridge he had within F1. That I would lay money on!
I agree that I think the timing for Perez is unfortunate. He could really do with just 1 more season at Sauber.
He's not been half as bad as people seem to make out... not sure where all this comes from really. Anyway... I prefer it when a driver shows frustration at losing. Better than just brushing it off IMO.
Thanks for the warm welcome you guys! This is why I picked this forum over others. But to answer some of your questions, yes I am American (an American following F1! No Way!). My dad is English though, born in Essex, so I've been brought up knowing about a lot of English stuff, which is probably why I follow the Premier League, and football in general, so keenly. It helps that my granddad is really passionate about F1 however. He is probably the one who really helped get me into it when I finally started watching on my own. As far as drivers/teams go, my personal favorite driver is Alonso. He just seems to be a very intelligent driver and really understands how to get the maximum out of whatever car he has happened to be in over the years. He is always a competitor, and I think that with age he has gotten better at handling difficult sitautions within his team and with the other drivers. I honestly wasn't all that much of a Ferrari fan until he joined the team, and I would blame that mainly on that fact that I didn't like Schumi. Even then, the only reason I disliked him was because he was winning so much prior to Alonso and I thought it'd be nice to have more competition in the sport, which of course we have now which is great! I don't really have anything against him now, and thought it was pretty admirable for him to come back into the sport at his age and after being gone for so long. Also a Kobayashi fan, especially after that Japan 2010 drive where he stormed through the field and made some great overtakes. I agree that if the Sauber was maybe more suited to him that he could show more of what he is capable of. Also, because I know he causes some debate on here, I am not anti-hamilton, he just isn't my favorite. He has had moments of what I would call "childish behavior" that have sort of made me not like him as much as I would like. Although, I won't dispute his talent, he is probably one of the 3 fastest guys along with Alonso and Vettel. (Kimi might be a 4th actually)
Really? He's had two whole seasons there already and has been outdriving the car this season. In fact I'd argue the timing of his move to Mclaren is absolutely perfect, Button will be a great tutor (I have a feeling he and Kobayashi are quite different drivers) and all being well Perez will pick up the skills of team leadership and be perfectly prepared either to take over from Button or define his own destiny elsewhere.
