Ok this is meant to be a positive thread. In all honesty how many realistic Saints fans would have thought after the opening six games we were dead Certs to be in the bottom three? I am sure most of us would apart from the deluded ones. I did, but we are not!

Yes ok we are fourth from bottom only because we have scored quite a few more than Norwich. Yes I want us to concede less, and Nigel why can't we be more defensive away from home, but to be honest I really think we will score against most teams and we will be all right. Yes I want to beat all the big teams and maybe we will beat some, but during this season we just need to stay up

Stay positive and get behind the team and nige

Must admit I didn't look hard at the fixtures when they were released, but when I did I didn't think we'd be much/any better off than we are now. I hoped we might beat Wigan simply because that was a Home match, but apart from that it has pretty much panned out as I expected. Yes the amount of goals conceded so far is worrying when we lose, but I'm not out with the razor, because we can give it out every bit as well as we receive it. Come January we'll strengthen anyway. I'm positive.

After our good performance away to City, in my most enthusiastic moments I thought we could beat Wigan & Villa and possibly take a point off United. Realistically I would have been very satisfied in being out of the bottom three. Well, we went close to that point from Utd but couldn't find the net against Wigan, so all in all we are where I expected us to be.

People say the league table means nothing until 10 games in. 4 to go, will we be out of the relegation places at that point? I think so!

When I saw the Fixture list I realised that it would be a tough start, even so I would have expected about 7 points by now, things have not gone our way, we all said the same thing early doors, we needed more depth in the defence, especially on the left side, there were obvious moves in the pipeline but apart from Yoshida none of them happened. We will never have any problems scoring goals, but shoring up the defence will be a priority, I am surprised that there are a few teams around the bottom that are definitely no better than us, there is going to be a mini-League going on, I hope that at least we can hang on to 17th and work from there. I am wondering if the solution to our problems is already in the Squad? Wouldn't be the first time that we had an answer all along but didn't know it.

A win next Sunday and we will have 6 points and ready to move on up. We;ve played four of the top teams and bar Arsenal not disgraced.

I expected 4 points by now. I hadn't even considered where that would leave us in the table as I didn't look in detail at other teams fixtures and don't consider a league table worth a peek until 10 games.

To be fair this thread is abit pointless seing as if reading and Qpr win their games in hand we will be second bottom, although I see your point.

I didn't realistically think we get much out of Man City, ManU and Arsenal, but I still hoped because sometimes there are unexpected results. Everton has turned out to be on a roll, so we won 1 of the 2 'winnable' games. Norwich have the same points, but from 3 draws (shame about Ba's handball goal:smile:). This is what I think our season will be like...wins and losses rather than draws. We can score, so will tend to beat the 'beatable' teams, but lose against better sides because of our defence.

So TBD if you see my point, then it can't be a pointless thread as you suggested.

Reading's game in hand is not going to be for a while as it needs to be rearranged. As for QPR v West Ham, I definitely want a draw.

To be fair, you would be in the relegation zone if Reading draw or win their game in hand or QPR beat West Ham......

Yeh not sure about that one qpr have had a poor start and despite them going about things the wrong way IMO I just cant see a side with that much quality going down. The same kinda goes for West Ham I think come the end of the season neither of these teams will be battling relegation hopefully we can say the same!

...I always thought the next 8 games would be crucial, and hoped the moral wouldn't be damaged by one of the toughest welcomes to the prem possible. I don't think it has, and we are stronger than we were for the opening game, and are learning - so I feel quite confident. And I keep saying - no way are we one of the worst three teams in this league, and we can score goals.

Our position in the table, for me, is fairly irrelevant at this stage. Everyone's position is clearly hugely influenced by how hard or easy your fixtures have been so far.

I'm with FLT in that I had targeted four points from these first six games. So we're ever so slightly behind target, but one whole point is nothing to get worried about.

These next two months (eight games) though are really important - partly because of who we play during those two months, and partly because of who we then have to come over the following three months.

Two wins and two draws have to be a minimum from these eight games, but it's not unthinkable that we could get, say, four wins and three draws from them.

If we're in the relegation zone after these eight games, then I'll be really worried. But I don't think we will be.

And you might still be in the Championship if you hadn't spent your finances on highly paid twallop! This is like saying if we had beaten Wigan we'd be on six points.

Yes but that's in the past and can't be changed.

QPR v West Ham is tomorrow and thus the position of Southampton this match day can change.
