Hamelot's just kind of a joke now, isn't it? It was used more in anger on the old BBC 606. I've been watching F1 since I was a small child but I don't see what's wrong if Lewis got new people into the sport in 2007; surely it's a good thing to attract new fans. I think it's just snobbery to think otherwise, ultimately.
Worth remembering what Martin Brundle said in the commentary for the Italian GP: "If you're new to F1 (and we all were once)..."
Fair enough silver arrow you made your point and most of all I respect your honesty. I am not new to F1 but yes I like Hamilton and I like button if that balances it out a little. Inftact if its personality based I'd rather have a pint with Jenson but my main issue is people calling Hamilton talentless as that's just not true.
There's that, but theres too many glory seekers who don't have a clue, and anger people like myself and Silver. If you're genuinely interested in F1, thats good. If you're only here because Hamilton is winning, thats not so good.
F1 may be about to lose a lot of fans! (not real fans, of course, just glory-seekers and Johnny-come-latelys )
So are all the many F1 fans in Spain who got into F1 just because of Alonso just as bad? Fact of the matter is that is the only way you can really drum up interest for F1 in a country, compare the interest in F1 in Germany before Schumacher came along, it was hardly popular
With me and my F1 story, favorite colour was Red, Ferrari was a Red car and Jean Alesi was driving it at the time, he was the first real driver I supported followed by Gerhard Burger at McLaren (Because I was a kid and I loved Burgers) and then Michael Schumacher in 1996 because he joined my favorite colour team. After each of these drivers retired I still watched F1 as much as a could, during School, college and work. Even if it was Australia or Japan and having to wake up at stupid o'clock to watch it. My problem with a Hamelot is will he still be watching F1 when Lewis retires or will he just piss off and come back when the next British boy wonder comes along? Seb could retire next year and I would still watch F1, can a designated "Hamelot" say the same thing when it's evident that he/she only started to watch F1 in 2007 and didn't really care about it before then until Lewis came along. They are also very vocal: "Lewis makes F1 exciting, if he wasn't there it would be boring and I wouldn't watch it." What kind of "real F1 fan" says that? The agenda's are different, that's why I don't like Hamelots one bit as it sounds like they're in for the glory and nothing else.
I ****ing hate the Alonso glory hunters. My brother was an Alonso fan even before he became world champion and he was about 7-8 years old at that time, now he is 16!
Alonso won me over by annoying Ron Dennis at McLaren, by daring to challenge his precious little Lewis.
No, it doesn't really apply to here, there are Lewis fans here, but I don't consider them Hamelots, we seem to be lucky on not606 in having more mentally balanced posters compared to the other F1 boards I've visited, probably due to the excellent Mods we have. Must admit I was a bit wary when I first joined seeing Bando as a mod and the infamous Lorca a member but without the constant goading of most vociferous Hamelots (BruceRon et al) found it to be the least antagonistic forum. There are one or two spats now and again (yes, I'm guilty as charged) but overall 10/10
