Same here, sort of. If i respect the driver, i can want them to win. I don't like Alonso that much, but i respect him, and have no issues with him winning.
I think being able to recognise a drivers talent and respect them for that alone is the mark if a true F1 fan. Rather that than people who refuse to accept that a driver has done well because they support someone else.
That's my point! A lot of extreme Lewis fans go nuts if Jenson wins or Alonso etc.... Just look at some of the bull**** that they came out with over Spa! It's not all Lewis fans, just a couple of right nobs, mostly on other sites!
If the Hamilton hype never existed in this country I might of been a Hamilton fan, but since it was out of proportion thanks to ITV, and that I was getting F1 virgins thinking they knew more about F1 than me ****ed me off as it was seer ignorance and stupidity that somehow Lewis was the messiah F1 needed when we already had plenty of talent in the field and more coming. My mission during 2007 was to find the "Anti-Christ" of British/Lewis F1. When I saw Seb fight for the win at Japan and get 4th at China in 2007 from the back of the grid in a backmarker I said "BINGO!" he was younger than Lewis, just as fast as Lewis and he was German which ****s of British society which I always find up it's own ass sometimes. I enjoy their suffering when somebody younger from a different country comes along and pisses all over it like it was nothing special. I only respect drivers that of which is deserved to them. People here will tell you how bad I was during the 11' period with Lewis as it finally shut up the fan boys blowing their own horns since 2007 that Lewis is actually quite beatable and that he cant go around driving like a moron and win multiple WDC's. In all honesty during this year Lewis has earn't my respect, more so than from 07-11 years. I don't hate Lewis or McLaren in general (Intense rivals etc...), I just think their fanboys (not their fans) are full of **** and deserve everything that comes their way.
Smithers I have to agree with your post. The mark of a true F1 fan is being able to respect a drivers talent even if you don't like them. That's exactly what I'm trying to explain. You don't have to like Hamilton but to call him a rubbish driver is a tad naive and makes me question how much certain people know about the sport and just how incredibly difficult it is to be a success amongst other phenomenal drivers on the grid. The whole Hamelot thing is a slightly strange but then this is the f1 forum so I expect no less than those kind of labels for anyone who speaks up for Hamiltons talent.
Same applies here mate. i always like the phrase "F1 began before 2007." i was watching F1 when i was falling off my potty, why should people swanning in recently think they know more than someone who's watched it (almost as a devotee) for the last 15+ years?
Kamui Kobayashi, and no real favourite team. The team i have the closest thing resembling support to would be Red Bull, i like the way they've made F1 more appealing to a younger generation, without needing a british driver to do it.
When I was younger I was a Prost fan..... I was 8 or 9 when I first witnessed his battles with Senna. Now I didn't know it was Senna I should be supporting like everyone else, I just gravitated toward Prost. I like Hamilton not because he is British and automatically I am supposed to but because he is an exciting driver to watch and was a breath of fresh air. Silver arrow you must be very easily influenced for itv to make you not like Hamilton but i suspect this is just an excuse for you to dislike him. Just tell it how it is and don't sugar coat it with lame excuses mate.
There also seems to be an element here that unless you have posted on this forum in the past then you have no clue about F1 but that's very naive. A lot of F1 fans don't bother posting here (especially Hamilton supporters) for the exact reasons you see above. They get called newcomers or hamelots. That's why this forum is so insular.
I think a lot of people were put off by ITV's coverage of Hamilton. We want to watch 23 of the worlds best drivers (and Narain Karthikeyan) drive fast cars, not Steve Rider interview the same person week in week out.
Oh ok, I have a real problem with glory hunters in short I ****ing hate them. The most obvious glory hunters jumped on the Lewis bandwagon thanks to the ITV hype and manipulation of the British population that Lewis was the "next Senna of F1". That kind of bullshit insulted the sport I love most, how ****ing dare the British media + the virgins of F1 claim Lewis is in any shape of form ANYTHING! like Senna... the kid was 23 ffs! Oh I tried to be nice, but the dorks became nothing but the origins of the common trolls we see today. Lewis never really seemed to calm these stupid rumours up and tried to be humble about it that it was in fact stupid to compare him to Senna, In short I feel he let it get out of control. Kimi on the other hand would actually laugh at anybody calling him the next Haikkinen when he was younger, same with Seb and Schumacher. But that's not the prime thing that pissed me off, the hype was completely non-deserved for Lewis, that's what ****ed me off and it really really! bugged me. I can tell he had great talent during 07, it takes a very hard individual to deny him that. But apart from the hype the only real thing that Lewis has bugged me (and this is being real picky) with was what I like to call "Neo moments" That he tries to make things all spiritual "I just don't know how I did that" kind of crap, he knows how he ****ing did it, he just did it because of his own damn ability! The more and more Lewis rebelled against McLaren the more i respected him as he was stepping out of somebody elses damn shadow and becoming his own individual which I can respect as an individual myself. I don't give a flying **** if he wants to be a gangster rapper, if he's happy with who he is then I respect that.
I see myself as more of a Hamelittle than a Hamelot: I like other drivers too, or even just a special performance, an underdog team or driver out-performing etc. I used to feel a bit defensive about being a Lewis fan but I don't care now - Hamelot, so what?
I would actually find it funny if I was called a fingerfucker, but sadly Max is a better person than me
Thankfully I missed all that living here in the states. One of the great things I can say about Speed F1 coverage is it's complete lack of bias.
That's not the problem if you are a Hamilton fan or are new to this forum, I like new members and variety to boot. Me and Kyle could do a test which classifies if you're a Hamelot or not which would clear things up for you in what we see: Are you a Lewis fan? Y/N Did you watch F1 "Fulltime" before 2007? Y/N Then me and very likely Kyle have a major problem as it's 90% likely they're a Hamelot if they choose the same box's. In 2017 I'll respect the Hamelots and call them Lewis fans from now on as it's been 10 years, but unless you have watched F1 before 2007 I just cant relate to you as I feel your watching F1 for a different agenda rather than enjoying it.
