When we have the ball Jay will be partnering Rickie. Without it I believe we are dropping to a 4-4-1-1 with Rickie behind Jay to utilise his vision, and Jay's pace against Heitinga and Jagielka.
With this 11 I would like to see this used: Rodriguez Lallana Lambert Ramirez Davis Ward-prowse Clyne Fonte Yoshida Richardson Gazzaniga
anyone know the formation yet?, If Nigel has dropped Puncheon to play Rodriguez out wide then its a complete waste. Puncheon has been one of our best players this season, especially last week.
Looking at the team I hope it's 442 (Ramirez right, Lallana left) with Rodriguez helping the midfield when we lose the ball. It's way too thin in midfield to play 4312. And 4231 would require Rodriguez to play wide which hasn't worked in the past.
Ramirez should be in the middle, not out wide. He's a playmaker more than a winger. His vision and passing would be wasted if he's out wide.
Often teams have a fairly rigid formation, but Saints' formation is very fluid indeed though. For example, often when Saints have the ball, Rickie is in the second half of the field, either wide-left, or centre, centre-right with half the midfield in front of him. It certainly makes it interesting to watch the movement.
Really looking forward to this!Pressures off a touch after last week which should suit us down to the ground. Worryingly it has made me cautiously optimistic!
4312 would work with Ramirez roaming only if Lallana in particular and JWP sit back a lot more than normal. Not sure Lallana has it in him
Like Lallana has been wasted on the wing his whole career you mean? I bet it's just the same formation as last week but with Rodriguez in for Puncheon.
