Taarabt has not made an appearance for Hughes' new-look QPR side since the opening day of the season, when a comprehensive home defeat to Swansea prompted a squad overhaul.

The 23-year-old had been biding his time but has now become impatient waiting for another opportunity, and held talks with the coaching staff this week in a bid to find out if he still has a future at the club.

Manager Hughes refused to reveal details of the chat, but has now publicly backed Taarabt to win back a role in the side, as long as he puts more effort in during training sessions:

'On the first day of the season we were beaten at home quite extensively and I made changes,' said Hughes.

'These changes affected Adel, but he's very well thought of here. This is the best place for him and he will get games. He has to bide his time like a number of other players do.'

'He must keep on focusing on working hard in training and making it difficult to leave him out of the team.'

Morocco attacker Taarabt is one of the most exciting players in the Premier League on his day, and helped fire QPR to promotion from the Championship two years ago, scoring 19 goals in 44 matches.

However, after seeing a dream transfer to Paris St Germain collapse, the 23-year-old failed to replicate that form last term, with a series of off-field issues being blamed for his poor return of just two goals in 28 games.

That's the same report that I read a while ago. Also, no-where in it is Hughes quoted as saying that Taarabt must "improve during training" or "must work harder in training". What MH ACTUALLY says is that Adel must "KEEP ON FOCUSING ON WORKING HARD IN TRAINING".
So lazy journalism playing on Taarabt's lazy tag when, in fact, he is FOCUSING ON WORKING HARD IN TRAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :steam:

Had a niggling feeling that the real reason for Adels sojourn from the first team was down to lack of effort on the training ground (and so lack of fitness on match days). This has been a continuos thread through his time with us, and shows his lack of professionalism and dedication to his career. He needs to step up in so many ways, and smell the coffee. Adel..... time to **** or get off the potty. Junior... take over that position, the competition is having another hissy fit/tantrum/sulk (ad nauseum)

Complete conjecture based on a crap bit of journalism. I was obviously imagining all those games at the end of last season when Taarabt tackled back all the time and really "got" the defensive side of his position!! Hughes played him out of position against Swansea and then used him as a scapegoat. I agree about Hoilett.......if he keeps Taarabt out and plays well, then no complaints from me, although I'd play them both at home.

Like Col, I am a huge fan of Taarabt and yearn for a return of the young man that bossed the Chamionship a couple of years ago. We saw glimpses of that guy towards the end of last season, but sadly that was all it was; glimpses. I'm not sure for how long our patience must be kept. I've said before that Taarabt needs a manager that acts like a father figure, rather than a regimental sergeant major, who puts a comforting arm around his shoulders and 'bigs' him up and makes him feel important and loved. That is how you get the best out of him. The problem is, can you afford to do this in the Premier League?

I don't have the impression that MH is that type of manager. He strikes me as a cold fish. He may have learned to be so autocratic from his former boss, Fergy, but even Fergy can be paternal when an important player's involved. Look at the efforts he made when Rooney was thinking of walking.

Would MH have gone out to Africa to persuade Adel to sign, as NW did? I doubt it. May be this is part of MH's management style he needs to work on.

Absolutely. Which is why I think Adel will leave, sadly.
It's all very well people saying that we can't afford the luxury of playing Taarabt in the Premier League, but it's not as if we're winning without him!!

Surely that headline should read: Mark Hughes must get wins or he can **** off; Tony Fernandes

That's it though isn't it? Hughes badly needs results but clearly doesn't think Taarabt's current performances in training merit a starting place. If he did, Taarabt would be in much faster than some of the lower profile characters.

I can see a possible scenario where Hughes last throw of the dice is to chuck Taarabt back into the mix and the Moroccan saving his skin.
