Time to put this one to bed. He was tried in a criminal court and acquitted on the basis that the Judge could not be sure he meant it as a racially offensive insult. On the strength of the evidence called that was probably the right verdict. That takes nothing away from the fact that abusing someone by reference to his race or skin colour deserves to be punished. The Court was right and so was the FA. Terry is an even bigger fool than we think he is if he does appeal. On the basis that it was a one off rather than repeated, again the punishment is probably about right. In our desire to brand JT as an out and out racist just because Chelsea have more than their fair share supporting them, we seem to have forgotten the fact that he has not actually shown any racist tendencies while playing for Chelsea. It was, as some of us said at the time, a comment made in anger which he made worse by putting his spin on it that he was merely asking Anton if that was what he thought he had heard and then getting his expensively assembled PR machine to present his "wronged man" face to the world. I think that Mourinho got it pretty much spot on when he said that JT was not a racist but in the heat of the moment in a football match things get said which are racially offensive and for that he deserved to be punished. Now let's get on with the rest of our season.
Just a final line on this which may bring a smile, apparently JT has a legal bill at present of £800k and running, and Chelsea have said they won't pay it!...
Hes also lost the umbro sponsorship. This have cost him the England captaincy, the England place, £5m and whatever remained of his reputation.
