What do you think about AP's new 8-yr contract awarded on grounds of need for stability? I agree about stability being good generally, providing the manager is good enough. However, it is no protection from being sacked, but merely improves your pay off deal. Does that make sense for any club?

I still reckon he got his contract fully paid up by us to make him leave quietly. Not blaming him...contract is a contract...I know I'd take it.

Mad if you ask me. Very few managers will last anywhere near that long and it must be long odds on that he won't. Just cost them more to sack him now!

I actually think that is good on both sides. Good obviously for Pardew; he has security and if it goes wrong, a big pay off to follow. I also think congratulations are due to Mike Ashley. He is an owner who normally gets slaughtered in the media, however he and Pardew must have a good understanding and relationship as to what they want to do, whatever that is. He has put a stake in the ground and said that he can work with this manager.

Well done to both of them.

I'd like to see him stay for 8 years. Why was he sacked by us and hammers though? The rumours were it being over his personal conduct rather than the teams results.

I think its good sure it doesnt gurantee anything but it sends out the right message and makes it harder to make rash decisions on both sides. NUFC should be applauded for thinking long term!

In addition it also works as a poison pill against other clubs trying to poach AP if he does do well. If another club wants Pardew I guess they would have to offer big money to buy him out of an 8 year contract.

This is good because Pardew's going to have to stay for a while now and show loyalty, it's not like PL and BR where they left their respective clubs in order to go to bigger clubs as soon as the jobs became available. Wouldn't it be ironic if Norwich stay up and Villa go down.

A long term contract is a very good idea in any employment. Too often companies end up doing things in the short term because of shareholder pressure, which are not good for the long term health of the business. I would be delighted if Nigel had been offered a contract like that. As it is, he did ok anyway.

Pardew is a very good manager, and I'm sure they would benefit from keeping him for 8 years. Considering the overwhelming evidence that stability equals success, I'm surprised that so many clubs are still making knee-jerk decisions when it comes to sacking managers. If Adkins is still here in 8 years, we'll have a very good team.

I'd absolutely love it if the Don offered NA an 8 year contract, it would stop all the silly speculation every time we lose a match, also I expect the majority of the squad will still be around in 8 years thanks to the long term planning and the vision of both NA and NC.

Still won't stop speculation. Contracts are easily broken.
