Wow what a morning! Hopefully its the right decision for Lewis. To be honest with the current drivers available Perez was probably the best choice but there's only really 2 drivers that can realistically replace Hamilton and there the top 2 in the Championship at the moment!
I don't understand what the benefit is for Hamilton then. Surely that would show moving to Mercedes (unless they have a sudden turn of fortune), was a really, really stupid idea.
Yeah I think the idea is to repeat what Schumacher did with ferrari in the late 90's (as well as getting away from whitmarsh and throwing some refreshing change into his life) If it works he becomes a legend, if it doesn't.....
Or he's playing the long game. It may pay off or it may fail, the only way to find out is to take a gamble.
Think about it, Mercedes put all their eggs into 2014 and dominate the season. Lewis wins 10+ races in that season and justifies the direction of ignoring 2013 partly , because he might of only won 3 GP's if they tried to focus on both 13'-14' seasons instead of just 2014 and beyond. 2014 starts for Lewis I believe, not 2013.
Hamilton had the choice of staying at Mclaren, a team on a downward spiral, and battling with Button for a WDC, thus jeapoardising his chances against Alonso and Vettel, or going to Mercedes and getting works support, the opportunity to work with Ross Brawn... so on and so forth. So many benefits for Hamilton at Mercedes. I would also be very surprised if the contract is watertight. If it goes wrong in 2014 I would not be at all surprised to see him in a Red Bull the next year.
He best hope them resources work for him, because for the past 3 years, BAR could have given them a run for their money... I am just concerned about where the hell Michael is going, there is still no news.
yeah the lack of schumacher news seems odd. He is probably hastily throwing a contract together at Sauber. I want to see him in the farrari costume again though.
After Monaco Quali he said "it confirmed what I have felt for this time". I think he is putting one forward for PS.
@InsideFerrari, @InsideFDA, @alo_oficial and @baldol are all still following Perez on twitter. All is not lost yet!! Maybe, hopefully, they can give him a couple of seasons at McLaren and then put him in the Ferrari in 2015 if Vettel gets pissed off and leaves early.
I don't believe there's many if any reg changes for the 2013 cars? If not, then I can't see why, with the right upgrades they can't give him a decent car for next year.
Have they shown an awful lot of evidence from 2010 to show that they will. It might be better, but they'll almost certainly trail Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari in 2013. 2014 could be different, because it could shake up the order. Consistancy in regs is bad for Mercedes, because they lack the good base to start from like McLaren have.
I agree but on the other hand Lotus have really stepped up this season from last so why not Merc? And having a better driver can only make them more competitive.
