Started wearing spec in my mid 20's. I like wearing them and have 2 or 3 different styles at any one time. Which is a good thing cos I don't like the idea of putting contacts near my eyes <shudder>
I got glasses when I was about 10 <shame> I still played fitba but by the time I was 13, I couldn't see at all. My manager paid for me to get gas permeable lenses to play football (hard, glasslike things that Tommy Burns wore). They were murder and I tried to play without them hoping nobody would notice but every pass over 5 yards was wild so I packed up the fitba'. Then, I hit a vanity streak at about 15 or 16 and got the (at the time) new soft monthly lenses - it was before all in one solution and I needed protein tablets and all sorts to go with them. Missing out on a few years playing football showed pretty badly and, considering United scouts came to watch me when I was 11, I was never that good again - packed it in again when I discovered eccies at about 17. Only started playing football again in my twenties playing fives and the likes but, there you go, there's the tale of me and my sub-standard ****ey myopic eyes
It was the mid-eighties when I got my first pair as well - NHS black rim ones You were only entitled to a new pair every 18 months or something if I mind right so I (summons up the courage to admit it)#gulp# had to keep a broken pair on with an elastoplast
Harsh but fair. I broke them fighting in school and then, to teach me a lesson about the worth of things and not to get in fights, my da kicked my **** in
