    Dear Fellow Posters,

We have been sold a lie by the modern world which promises us 'immediate' everything.

    Immediate access to:

Your friends: Phone, email, twitter, facebook etc.

Food: Instantly available in various formats on just about every street in London and large parts of the UK.

Services: 24 hr banking, on line bills, doctors etc all readily and pretty much instantly or same day available.

Information: Everything is on the net and information that previously was at least 24 hours old in tomorrow's newpaper is available the moment it becomes new eg the Terry ruling from today. Even crusty old judges (not noted for being progressive) are publishing some judgements on the net as first port of call.

We are conditioned by the modern world for instant access, instant gratification (let's not go there) and, of course, instant success. That is the lie.

So, barring an extremely unlikely lottery win, what brings instant success? I can't think of anything myself.

However, with hard work, application, training, practise and honing of skills with good team work comes success. Along the way there will also be misery, despair and desperation (ask anyone who runs even a small business) and it is in those difficult times that teams headed for success dig deep and push through.

We all want success. I am 'happy' to wait for that success and try not to react in the way we've been conditioned to react what that success is not instant. Let's go against the tide, stand with our team and our manager and try not to fall out with each other along the way. It's the only sensible choice IMO.

Please don't think I'm being arrogant and preaching to folks. I'm speaking mainly to myself in the light of my childish response to yesterday's defeat and just thought I'd share this in case it helps anyone else too.

Together, we are QPR. With no togetherness, we are just a bunch of young to middle aged guys and gal who spend far too much time thinking about football and this forum!

Absolutely...and everyone should face up to the fact that what we want will take time to build

    Everyone should understand that NOW!

I thought this was going to be about us conceding immediately after a goal is scored.

Its happened 4 times in the last 3 games obviously excluding the 0-0

There is immediate access to "gel" as well. Or at least there is in Swansea.

I was planning on doing a post about the consequences of heightened expectations bringing an increased sense of despair (and euphoria when we finally click) but I think your post is much better RTID.

    Well said.

    And mine, nailed it RTID.

Didn't see any of last nights game so can't comment, but the joy of seeing my team play genuinely beautiful football on Sunday will keep me going for a long time. Sometimes style is more satisfying than utility. That's a lesson QPR fans don't need to learn, it should be in the blood.

Great post RTID, sadly it's all too true. My one gripe about it though is that you should of posted it sooner.

Flyers post on this thread was good too.

Cheers one and all. Glad it is of some help. We feel the pain but that makes the eventual pleasure greater.

Completely understand where these sentiments come from, but personally I'd rather see play dire football and put the ball in the net more often. I've promised some on here not to make any rash suggestions regarding the employment status of MH untill he's had 10 games of this season to sort 1 system which the team can get a result from. Occasionally. And as such he has my complete unwaivering confidence, for the next 3 matches.

I wish I had the true and pure faith that others on here have, Fickle/cynical/life aware? who knows.

To be frank we have stank, for most last season and results wise this season is no better. Patience is something every team needs when promoted but seriously look at most of the others that have gone up in the last 3 years and kicked on without needing a full squad rebuild. (though I do acknowledge that of those some had just left the top flight). We have showed quite a lot of patience thus far, but if after 3 more games we still can't hold on to a lead or god forbid, play our best players in their natural position, then what do we do may become a pressing issue.

Just to put this into context my employer is a Reading fan. Anyone needing network support staff drop me a line........ oh yeah and the team also cost me a few quid on saturday as I have a brief moment of "faith" and really really did believe it was all starting to come together. £3 I'll never see again.

    Peace to one and all.

I agree with SB 73 that it will become important to a QPR heritage the way and style we win football matches. At the moment we seem to be able to do this but lose. Could be worse we could be a Stoke. I haven't seen us play as well as against Spurs ... It was beautiful . I am sure everything is in the post
    Time to enjoy QPR again
And we are still in for a shout of the title.

That is all very true, and I agree totally, but I don't think football club chairman/owners fall into the patient category!

I've been following the Rs for exactly 40 years this month, when I saw us destroy Cardiff City 3-0 in the old Second Division, when I was 11. The beauty and spirit of that performance had me hooked instantly, and, it appears, permanently. I haven't regretted a second of the time and money invested since, though I won't pretend every moment has been pure pleasure.

Apart from 'lower' leagues we have won nothing in this 40 years, and have only been close on 3 occasions. Now we finally have a squad with several players who have the potential to make the all time best ever QPR 11. We have seen the beginnings of what they could achieve together , and the style in which they could achieve it. We have an ownership team who are, I think, creating something entirely new. But the club still really belongs to us, not them.

Now I get to see the games with my boy, just like I used to with my Dad. It's a ****ing joy, I'd say our patience is beginning to pay off, big time. In this context I refuse to get wound up about a result in the Capital One Cup and our league position after 5 games. Respect to those of us who are, you are showing your passion.

DT if you get a chance/ haven't seen already search Salad Fingers on YouTube, I think you will enjoy it. There are a series of them, including backing sounds by Aphex Twin in some. Won't post on here because its not relevant to the board.

Just gotten around to reading this, great OP and comments. Got me thinking; is there some sanctuary located somewhere between what you describe RTID and this treadmill of unfulfilled expectations that we aspire to every season?
