Yeah I went to see that on a school trip too. Ceremony of the Last Post it's called, right? It's a beautiful monument, and a very moving ceremony. Ypres is a beautiful town too, great architecture.

Yes, it could be good, but my annoyance at footballers receiving so much money becomes a torrent against injustice when I see middle aged men tapping a round bouncy thing into a hole and it means so much, it's as if they are true heroes. It doesn't. It means sod all and they are extraordinarily well paid for what they do. So basically, I've shut myself off from watching that sport because 1] they are obscenely well paid, and 2] it isn't that good a sport to watch.

I played golf for several years, about 20 years ago. It's a brilliant game to play, but it made me feel middle-aged straight away, so I took up ski-ing. That was great, but nearly killed me, so I took up sailing, and I've stayed with that ever since. Sailing is also not a great sport to watch, but a fantastic [I would best or amongst the best] sport to take part in.

Sorry to make a long answer to a simple question, lamb. ;)

Yeah they like exposed electrical cables, open flames and being left alone for extended periods of time.

    Seriously though, congratulations!

    Congratulations Timatoketchup,

I have 3 kids, and my eldest son is about to be a father himself any second now, so it's Grandad Olddellboy for me. Being a dad is mostly common sense. Best advice is not to let any child flirt with supporting Man U. Buy them season tickets as soon as they can walk and get down to the club shop now as they have great gifts for babies!!

COYR - on the bus together.

PS all my kids are saints supporters

That's slightly worrying, but congratulations, all the same. ;)

Children are those small people who get bigger when you haven't seen them for a few weeks. Some of them get gobbier too. I don't like those as much as the quieter ones. The totally silent ones need to speak a little more, as that can be worrying too. Children can also get rather demanding too and think that the World evolved expressly for their purpose. The nicest adults that grow from these children manage to shake off that condition. In my experience though, the very nicest adults never forget they were once children and actively keep a little of that inside them, so that they can still understand their own child. It also helps when we play.

There. That's exhausted my knowledge. If you want instructions on how to change a nappy or burp a kid, I think I can still remember. ;)

It supposedly cost £218,000 to raise a child in the UK. This equates to around £10,400 a year, £865 a month or £28.44 a day.

But I'm sure they're worth it

I really don't like children and have never been able to eat a whole one.

I remember in my early days of courting my many girlfriends I would offer to babysit for family friends (the opportunity to be alone all night with the latest girlfriend in someone's warm house was much better than the back row of the local cinema) unfortunately none of them had ever changed a nappy before so I ended up doing it should the child awake with a filled nappy.

Having several younger siblings and a busy mother it was all hands to the pumps when a baby's nappy needed changing so I was a dab hand at it through many years of experience.

I have to say that after such an evening it was usually the end of said girlfriend.

It was only when I met the very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov (only she wasn't then if you get my drift*) that I discovered someone who knew more about babies than me. It was then that I realised I had found the one person in the whole wide world who was just right for me.

The rest is history as they say and I have never ever had to change another nappy.

*She was very lovely but she was not yet Mrs Godders.

    Hi Timatoketchup,

Congratulations on your news. My advice? If you have anything you particularly wanted to do which involved going out anywhere I would do it in the next few months. The best time of your life awaits you, but I wouldn't go back there for all the tea in China.<laugh>
