We've already had those sort of head-lines this morning. We've also got London based Manchester United fan and poor journalist Mick Dennis claiming that both Terry and Suarez should have been sacked. He also said that Suarez was ''judged'' to have repeated his comment to Evra ''7 times'. Was that when Evra made his initial statement, or when he was approached by the FA when he was educated to exaggerate by his manager? This is the reason why according to Dennis, that Suarez got a longer ban. However this doesn't take into account the words being used.

No no, that's not what I meant. I'm trying to see if its the iPhone copy & paste that screws up the links or the not606 iPhone app. It appears that it's the app as I posted the 2nd time from the Internet version on the iPhone.

As for the report it basically says that as individuals the papers stories were largely neutral but there were more negative pieces than positive for Suarez than for Terry but not by a great deal. The Guardian and Mirror are singled out but in specific methods as being weighted slightly more against Suarez as is the Mail with the Sun more critical of Terry.

The exception to this and an important one in my view is headlines. The subtle & not so subtle use of "racist" or "racism" with Suarez headlines greatly outstripped that of Terry. The title headlines throughout always suggested Suarez Guilt whereas Terry's headlines were describing his "battle".

The conclusion was that although both were condemned for what they were charged & found "guilty" of, the tone & language of the condemnation was the following:

The behaviour was Almost expected of Suarez & a reinforcement of the stereotype of the dirty underhand foreigner. It was consciously & unconsciously linked by the media to his being from elsewhere, as an integral part of his character based on his being foreign.

With Terry while the condemnation was there, the media didn't link it as much with his character because a) we've known him longer so have a more balanced view of him & b) the court case curtailed the wording of the media descriptions in case of criminal interference.

Overall it suggests with caveats that Xenophobia is alive & well in the Media which suggests its alive & well in our society.

I would also add that even if you take guilt as accepted Suarez gets double punishment. (Not the FA one) he had all the stories of his own and now gets his name mentioned as many times in the stories about Terry as Terry does. While this is slightly unavoidable it is in reality a continuation past the punishment that he accepted & he is also being burdened by some of the condemnation (again) that should now be going solely Terry's way.

It's like Terry has joined Suarez rather than Terry being guilty on his own. To me this reinforces the stereotype: Bad Terry for acting like the foreigner.

The last sentence sums the British media up as the hypocrites they actually are.

Thanks, and the final two points are extremely valid. Suarez is getting a double whammy.

You'll notice that Rio X, the other player found guilty of breaking E3(2) this year, is conveniently left out of all of this. Inverse racism by the media and the single-issue race relations self-publicists?
