Reminds me of a funny story. I was driving from Las Vegas back to my home in California one night and had been sort of racing a Ford mustang in my wife's Ford explorer for a while with her fast asleep in the back. Anyway I though it was behind me as I slowed up but it wasn't it was a highway patrol car who proceeded to pull me over. Officer says menacingly " I've been following you for almost an hour at speeds UP TO 96 mph and noticed you threw a cigarette out of the window. Does this car have an ashtray?" Me " No it doesn't but I have been using this empty packet for my butts". Officer " Oh I see, please don't throw them out the window as it's a fire hazard". Me "umm okay officer" As he walks away he turns around & says "oh and slow the **** down", and gets back in his car & drives off. Wife is in the back of the car & says " WTF just happened there". Me "Apparently he doesn't want me to set the desert on fire"
Where can I get one of those t-shirts. The bloody bitch split the UK right donw the midle and it will probbaly never heal. Also, she provoked the miners strike and had the date set from two years previously....when she did her first U-turn in Feb 1982. Only one graph on the walls at No 10.....tonnes of coal at power stations...set to be 29 million in March 1984....and hey presto. Only shame she is still alive but too drunk and sclerotic to know the pain she is in.
yes i think thats true, if i remember correctly from my work she stockpiled massive amounts of coal in preparation to ensure all the protests and strikes would fail, as well as using heavy handed policing.... it was certainly a battle she relished and it succeeded in destroying communities in wales and other industrial areas as loads of towns relied solely on industry to survive..... she made the accountants decision to say 'hey, we can import coal cheaper from china, so you're no longer needed, youre all fired!' instead of realising that all these people would find it impossible to find work in the modern world, as well as fecking up the balance of payments..... rant over mind you, i think we've gone from brutality to the opposite, nowadays the police do nothing to anti social people, theyre far too soft on the scum of society.....

I can remember her reign of terror, i joined the RN in 1978 (stayed in for 25 years) she got in in 1979, and she started almost immediately, by 1980 she had put 50,000 servicemen and women on the dole. Then the Falklands happened, which was terrifying (thats all i will say on that episode) and then proceeded to destroy industry on the back of the feelgood factor after the Falklands, she really was one evil cow. To witness it you had to live through it.
appreciate i didnt experience it first hand but you dont have to be a rocket scientist to realise that you cant have a manufacturing industry where its workers strike every 5 minutes and get higher and higher wages, which lowers your competitivity. and also that you dont see workers in china and other successful economies striking every 5 mins. also with the way we are bound to health and safety laws and environmental laws, its much more practical to let the developing nations have those jobs. they also do the work much cheaper. look at the french car manufacturers, they are heavily subsidised and not doing well compared to e.g. asian firms and german firms, adapt or die.......

Swampy - I feared you were going to get a backlash from the Aberdare one for that lot............ Seriously though, the global economy has now shattered the isolationist policies of the developed countries. The French car manufactureing base is a very good example of how things have changed. They've always relied far more heavily on domestic customers than the new competition. Even the "old" competion in Germany realised many, many years ago that the future needed to be geared internationally rather than retain the head in the sand policies that has brought the Peugot/Citroen and to some extent Renault to their knees. The Pacific rim countries and the BRIC joint set up (Brazil/Russia/India/China) are where it's at now. Emerging economies have shown monumental growth over the past 10 years, and although they've suffered to some extent with the current worldwide slump, they had far less to lose than the western competion. No need to apologise for politics or who you support on here Swampy - as long as you support Cardiff City FC mate, you can be blue, red or any other shade of the political spectrum.

right aber take a look at this.... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...any-How-UK-car-production-capital-Europe.html this is the sort of industry thatcher championed....... they didnt get this successful by striking all the time, they got there through innovation and a willingness to move with the times.....the japanese and germans are super efficient in production and now the nissan plant in sunderland is one of the most efficient in europe..... look at some of the crap churned out by british car makers in the 70's and 80's, its no wonder it was left to slowly slip out of existance.....
