Foy the ref, and Clattenberg the fourth official.

May as well send the youth team!

Dont think so, they would much rather lose to us then you guys and Arsenal, wouldnt be suprised if they got a result in this game though as Rafael is doubtful and Valencia was reported to be seen on crutches so cant see Bale kept quiet and if Dembele does what he done for Fulham agaist us again then who knows what could happen

As for the OP, I agree that beating United at Old Trafford would be worth way more to us than just the 3 points. I don't buy into this idea that the length of time we've gone without beating them affects the players too much. Breaking the hoodoo and bad run against them will relieve the fans, not the players. I see the additional benefits lying more in the confidence of beating a top side away from home, helping get the fans behind the team and giving AVB a break in general.

I don't think there's any extra importance on the result of this game though. There's not the added pressure of a derby game or the pressure of a game we're expected to win.

Decent enough question DL, my only correction would be put "so far" on the end of your title. Because I do not see how the 6th game of any season is the most important, regardless of opposition. It is his first acid test if you like, but I prefer to leave this there....jinx springs to mind! <ok>

He is YV but he doesn't spend as much time as AVB. Steve Clarke did a lot of that for us.

They've got problems at the back anyway.

AVB won't be as unlucky as he was with officiating when he last went to Old Trafford for sure, even managing Spurs and with Chris Foy as ref. If he manages to top a United pen after a slip and 2 offside goals then fair play I'll apologise and say I was wrong.

United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs all appear to be doing better on the road than at home, strangely. If that continues then just maybe it might be your year.

I don't really see the point here. Why should this be his most important game? Or Reading, for that matter. It will take a little while longer than that to know if AVB is the real deal, or not.
As one who was against his appointment, it would be very easy for me to start picking holes. But, we said we'd give the guy a chance. A few games, no matter who they're against, is not giving the guy a chance. Not in my book, anyway.
We lost 3-0 last year, so let's hope that, at least, we can give a good account of ourselves, win, lose, or draw.

I had a really good feeling about the ManchesterU game., I thought if we went all out for the win, with two strickers and a positive attitude., we might, just might get something from this game...Thats until I read the above. :emoticon-0149-no:

I think there will be lots more important games for AVB and us than Utd on Saturday

I think the UEFA game next Thursday is more important for a start off. Having been robbed by the officials v Lazio that game is now a mustn't lose. I can't see us qualifying if we lose that one.

I struggle to see your logic of next weeks Europa game being more important than the United game. Of course the league game is more important.

For your information, 3 teams qualify from each group, so we are by no means out of it should we lose next Thursday.

No they don't, that was in the 5 team groups but now it's 4 like the CL. We finished 3rd in our group last year and went out.

As much as it's important we don't lose but even if we did we probably would find it easier to get out of that group than beating United away.

I just meant in terms of psychological boost and lifting the fans/players/club as a whole.

District Line, you underlined a sentence in my post calling it a wum,no it wasn't. It was a response to your mention about us beating Arsenal for the first time in donkey's which was a wum. No,Liverpool haven't beaten us since to answer your question.

I'm going to obey the advice that I've suggested for AVB and the Spurs team and that is to go along quietly and don't shout mouths off. I'm going to leave it a bit longer yet to see how we get on in Lazio and on Saturday before judging AVB. He wasn't given a chance at Chelsea and cannot be judged on half a season. So far one defeat in seven tells a good story for me. He won the UEFA cup and that wasn't just against Portuguese teams although I would have liked to see him another year at Porto just to see if he was a one season wonder or not. Alas we shall never know but so far so good and he's gone up in my estimation.

Of course it would be a boost to win. Especially at their place. There seems to be an almost resigned attitude to going to Old Trafford - reading the posts on here, certainly amongst a lot of the fans, anyway.
Not long ago, it was Chelsea that we supposedly could never beat - until, one day, we did. Maybe this weekend will end the Utd jinx? Whatever happens, I'll reserve my final judgement on AVB until the end of the year, at least.

Yep, that's correct YV about the structure of the group.

If we lose to the Greeks I agree we still have a better chance of qualifying than winning at OT, but it will be really tough. It's a very difficult group and it's quite likely we'll lose in Rome.

In ways after the appalling officiating against Lazio, I'm tempted to think stuff the EL. but then again after the appalling officiating at OT over the years, what's the difference. Robbed in Manchester, robbed in Europe.

To me the game in Greece is bigger than the one at OT, because in theory we have a better chance of a result there, and more chance of winning the EL than the Prem. Probably the game against Villa is bigger than either of them, because we will really need to win that one.

There was a time when Spurs hadn't won at Anfield for seventy odd years, that hoodoo was broken and more wins came at Anfield. It will come, when?????
