Get a life you two, Plym lives in KENT, do you seriously expect him to attend meetings/matches??? Regarding the teacher/pupil "incident" I think with all the media hype there is one person who has been completely overlooked and must be equally devestated and that is the teacher's wife, I believe they have only been married a short while, I really feel sorry for her.
Notdistant, a comment that an area where multi languages are heard is like the united nations is NOT racist. It is merely an observation that I had not expected to hear so many different ones in one City. I have already said that I do not care where people come from and I have nothing against anyone in life whatsoever. Not that I should have to explain myself or as it seems defend a comment I made. Mentioning something in the context of foreign does not constitute a racist remark and it is people who pick up on any mention of that sort of thing that have more of a problem than often the person making it. NB go away and stir somewhere else. You seem unable to resist it on here. Back to the topic which is people having a moan about Argyle. It is in the nature of football supporters to moan. We all have an opinion about our clubs and why shouldn't we. If you ask supporters about a certain player for example you will get 20 different opinions so what is wrong with that? Many people are not happy with Fletcher for one reason or another and again, why shouldn't they hold a view. Argyle have not pulled up any trees for several years now and still don't despite the last result. If something is seen as failure or at worst not success then it is down to the manager first and formost. I'm not completely happy with Fletcher either. I know the club has problems on the money front and I don't expect Brent to chuck his bank balance at the club either. But, I'm still entitled to hold a view even if deep down I know there will be no change. One question I would ask notdistant is quite a simple one. When you buy something then usually some money changes hands for the purchase. How much then has Brent actually spent in his purchase of the club? From where I'm standing if you take all of the dealings into account then I can't see he has spent anything so far. That isn't chucking money at the club it isn't chucking any money at anything if my view is right. The ground was sold back to the Council for £1.7m. How much of that money was spent when it was received with any on top of that. Whilst as said I don't expect buckets of dosh to be ploughed in I did actually expect some money to be spent.
Another thing the press has missed is the real criminal in all this... Carl Fletcher. Why did he not stop this happening? He should be hung, drawn and quartered over this!!!!!!
Sensible - back to ATD with ye, I think that Plymborn is able to answer for himself and doesn't need your defence. NDG sums him up precisely. Anyway, don't worry, I won't interrupt your love in any more.
Heard that before NB but sure enough back you come with another snide remark. Expect to see you soon then.
And they say women are bitchy Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if anyone on here can't respect this perhaps you should post on ATD or Pasoti where you have to toe the party line or else. I like this site the best as it allows EVERYONE to voice how they feel without the fear of being ripped to shreads and long may it continue !
Lolipop do you really think I am that easily bought!!! Chocolate hobnobs now that might be a different matter..........
I'll take your word for it Sensible. Although in some areas my politics may be somewhat to the right of Attila The Hun, I am rabidly anti-racist - and mildly anti-sexist too. You caught me after having in real-life to put up with several days of people claiming that John Terry - a man who thinks nothing of sleeping with a team-mate's girlfriend whilst married, who knees other players in the back and then claims it was an accident until proven wrong by the TV cameras and who apparently runs a ring of "senior players" at Chelsea who decide whether managers stay or go - is somehow superior to Anton Ferdinand, presumably merely because of his skin colour. As to the Brent deal, I don't know the overall figures and you'd have to be genius to work them out from newspaper reports alone. If the transaction went through the Akkeron Group, it will eventually be disclosed in its accounts although it is likely to be aggregated with any other acquisitions made in the same year. It's the purpose of financial accounts never to tell you precisely what you want to know..... For financial & business purposes, the consideration for such deals always include the debts of the acquired company which the buyer becomes responsible for as well as the amount actually paid. Those debts must have been very substantial compared to the underlying commercial value of the business even after the administration process. In other words, if it wasn't for the property deals, Argyle had a negative net value at any price and no sensible purchaser would touch it with a bargepole unless there were incidental gains. I hope by now you know that when I say that, it isn't entirely bull****. It's no coincidence at all that the only two interested parties were property concerns. In any event, none of that matters. What does matter is that without Brent, PAFC wouldn't be playing League football this season or probably ever again. With Brent, it is. That's the key fact for fans, not whether Brent is making money on unrelated property deals. You can only judge something against the next best alternative. In Argyle's case, that was either Heaney's lot, if they could have completed, which began to look unlikely, or nothing. Twelve months hasn't changed that. LaLaLa - No I don't expect Plymborn to travel from Kent for a pretty inconsequential meeting. I even understand why he's unable to attend many matches. However, if it's not sufficiently important to get him down to Plymouth, then what I do expect is that he doesn't then rip into the club for failing to post minutes of the meeting on the same day that the meeting occurred, on a Saturday, so he can read them from the comfort of his home, which seems to me to be just a tad unfair and is, I'm afraid, not dissimilar to much else he posts.
I was enjoying your thread reply notDistant....until the last paragraph. I was just supposing that if PAFC can report a game on a Saturday, which is a working day in Football circles, a meetng that finished before that match started could of been on the net no later than the match report. In this unfortunate age of a seven day working week being rather standard and weekends not being seen as rest days anymore, I thought that that could of been a possibility..... that's all notdistant....and as for not being dissimilar to other postings that is life isn't it.....my views are not to be seen as less important than yours.
Agree with all the John Terry sentiments, IMO he is a blatent racist - sensible IMO is not, I don't believe I am either. I don't like some Brits and I don't like some people from other cultures either but it's a personal thing and nothing to do with where they come from. I have worked with people from all walks of life and become friends with some of them, some are among my facebook friends. What I do think is totally wrong is the same thing I read between the lines of sensible's posts and that is how rediculous it has become when we are "walking on egg shells" afraid to mention the word "black" or other stuff when it is totally acceptable to use similar words to discribe white people or the British. It has gone beyond the joke now. Apparently you cannot now use the word Black or Coloured (which was once deemed acceptable) so what actually do you call someone who is not... erm white? Maybe we should all join in and not call the Scottish a Jock, the Welsh sheep shaggers or tell Irish jokes and heaven help anyone who happens to have ginger hair! If we're going to get silly about this let's all be anti everything that just might upset some sensitive soul! Right, that's that off my chest!
You are completely entitled to your opinions Plymborn and to post them here. However, I hanker for the days when there was a positive feeling about the club and between the club & its fans. That's certainly been missing over the past few years and from what I gather, ATD confirms there is a still a sizeable minority who haven't got it back yet. That's disappointing as I'd hoped that Brent's last minute rescue and the efforts he's made to involve the fans would cement a new positive relationship. Happy Days will probably only come back when results turn for the better. That's a shame as there's a bit of chicken & egg about all this and I don't believe booing teenage players is the right way to go although I know that wasn't you.
Oh Sensible, sorry to prove you correct and get back much sooner than even I thought. However, I will not let you get away with calling my comments - 'snide remarks', nothing could be further from the truth. Just civil questions and a very amusing paraphrasing of Macavity - that's all Bye for now
notDistant.......quite a few people have concerns about some of the (inner circle) types that seem to have Brent's ear....and can be seen sitting in the directors box.....and have no official job or title to authenticate that position. I am sure that James Brent is an astute man and hasn't got to where he is to day in business by being anyones fool,........having spoken to him and listened to him at last years PASALB Christmas get together he came over as very approachable and willing to listen to other peoples points of view. My concern is his knowledge of how football works,he is obviously learning as he goes along and is in the presence of some dubious (my word) types who have got reputations, having upset many others with their controlling ways on another website, you will have surely come across the comments of some of the things that have been talked about and you can make your own mind up about those I'm sure. I just hope that there are those that can help the club forward in a positive way...without falling into the traps that have so blighted us in recent years.
There is a deal of suspicion regarding Brent by some factions of the supporters. The one thing I will agree with them on is that time has now moved on from the "we must be eternally grateful to Brent and anything he does is ok" stance that others would have us be. When do we judge Brent on the now and not the past. I say it is now. The main complaint it seems is that there is no apparent detail that he has infact put his hand in his pocket for anything as such. The wages are being paid out of current earnings and speeded up by charitable auctions and donations from the fans. The payout to creditors was derisory albeit they agreed to it. He got £1.7m for the ground so it does seem feasible that the immediate payout was more than covered. What they see is fans involvement giving time for free. The Far Post club was decorated by supporters who even bought the paint. That's one example. What the fans get is to pick the pasty supplier and pay a fairly high price for matchday tickets. They see people like Webb and Newell ingratiating theselves into the Director's Box and apparently weilding some influence when they should have none. Supporters told what to think on websites and what to say by these people and war declared if they fail to toe a line. Brent does nothing about this despite the fact he must know what goes on. ATD is all anti everything anyway but pasoti, the bigger of the two sites is not allowed to be anti anything. There is just so many things, small things that seem wrong somehow. If Argyle struggle yet again then the support numbers is bound to suffer in the end. There is only so much pain people can take before they give up. Brent appears, and I say appears rather than anything for sure, to have put nothing in the pot and isn't going to. People see outside deals making him money with nothing coming the way of the club. None of their business what he does outside of football but they still notice and put the two together. Answer they come up with is he isn't interested in football just the deals that have come with it. When exhausted he will abandon the club. It isn't difficult to see that thought process given the situation so far. For me the jury is still out. I am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt for now but even I need to see something to give me confidence for the future and not years of pain and nothing to show for it. As for the racist thing thanks for your doubt benefit although I don't need your approval. I know how I think and that is all I need to know.
