I seem to remember Lallana diving in our recent 2-2 draw. FWIW I don't like it when players dive even if they are Pompey players. When Mcleod dived and got the Crawley player sent off, I was dissapointed in him.
I've always said: Any player caught diving or faking injury/slap whatever, should be punished with an automatic 3 game ban!
Most teams would end up not being able to field a team. Although some decisions are clear cut when looked at on replays, a lot are not black and white. Slow motion can even make some things look worse than at normal speed.
Best way is for a review panel to hand out bans for blatant dives. Sometimes it's impossible for the ref to tell because of the angle. Would help if technology was used. I wouldn't might the game lasting an extra 5-10 minutes if it meant all the big decisions were right.
The referee DID get it wrong about Suarez... He should have booked him. To be honest Gerrard & Johnson need to shut up. It's a case of the boy who cried wolf. Suarez dives literally all the time, so of course he will get a reputation. When he isn't diving he is whining and swearing in the referee's ear so it's no wonder he doesn't get given any decisions. It was never a penalty on Sunday, the referee was spot on, and I hate Man U. I hate diving, it ruins the game. Look at Tevez "diving" over Hooiveld on the opening day. OK, that one wasn't as bad as many as Hooiveld did leave his leg in, but Tevez could definitely have carried on his run if he was an honest player (AKA if there was more punishment for diving...)
In my view Suarez deserves everything he gets, Lets not forget his blatant cheating in the world cup which he then went on to celebrate, that coupled with the whole LFC support Suarez t shirt bollocks after his racist comments towards Evra. The guys a nasty piece of work.
I'm starting to feel a bit sorry for Suarez to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I still booed him during the GB vs Uruguay match like everyone else, but I don't think his 'negrito' remark was anywhere near as bad as, for example, Terry's, and he wasn't responsible for the abhorrent way his club dealt with it. I think he then was going to shake hands with Evra and Evra pulled his hand away, and looking at the handshake before the match last weekend Evra doesn't even make eye contact with him. I honestly think out of the two of them Evra has been the bigger dick about it all. Of course, he's still a diver and won't ever get a marginal decision ever again, and he deserves that totally.
The problem is that Refs only give fouls in the area if a player goes over. I remember Adkins calling Lallana "too honest for his own good" early last season because he stayed on his feet when we could have got a penalty and won the game. Can't remember who it was against but since then he's gone over much easier than he did before, as has Lambert. Managers are basically telling players to go over if fouled in the area & I don't blame them as that's the only way to win penalties now.
I refer you to my Mark Halsey response. Be careful about lumping all LFC fans together. But this is typical of a whinging Southerner!!
Well this topic has come up before, but one of the reason that refs are careful about booking players for simulation is that they have to be certain that there was no contact. Players often wait for the contact, however slight, before going to ground. They could stay on their feet, but are entitled to go down if there is contact. I think that the best way forward would be a really stiff penalty, maybe a three match ban plus the deduction of points which a team won on the basis of a fraudulent penalty, but only in cases where the TV cameras leave no room for doubt.
There were a few Oscar winners this last weekend. Chelsea had at least two simulations on Saturday, so Liverpool aren't by any means the only team with possible divers [or do I mean Divas..?] in their team. In my opinion, diving has to be stamped out of the game. It's bad enough to hear of players winning penalties, by inviting the tackle, without them going to ground at the merest breeze from an opponent's presence, all of 3 ft away or so. Only 10 years ago, players still would do all they could to keep their feet. I noticed Aguero, the other day, could easily have gone to ground, but stayed on his feet, despite probably being fouled, and Ref Mike Dean waved him away. So, with the way the rules of the game are being played at the moment, the diver is just taking advantage. As I said, diving needs to be removed from the game, and that means proper fines and bans. Not 1, 2 or 3 games. 5 - 10 games.. and policed retrospectively, by the cameras, so that divers, whoever they play for, stop it in a heartbeat. They've learned how to do it, and they can unlearn how to do it as well. This is where the FA need to show some balls. Not wasting their time taking players to task again, after they have been cleared in the law courts.
Not a dive but our penalty on Saturday was from a foul started outside the area. No one has remarked on it apart from one comment on Sky that de Ridder was determined to get into the area. Presumably he was pulled back again as he tried to get over the defender and that was what the penalty was for.
All Scousers ever do is moan. Look at the way they have treated their last four managers and now this one.
Like many of you, I'm all for lengthy retrospective bans being handed out by a panel of ex-players. I doubt it will take long to rid this from the game if this stance was adopted and embraced by the governing bodies. We should see more goals and possibly regain an appreciation for tackling that is slowly moving out of the game. On a slightly different note, should we rename the 18 yard box the "yes that's OK in there but don't try it outside or I'll give a free-kick without any hesitation whatsoever box"? I ask as the 10 - 15 rugby tackles I see in every game whilst "defending" set pieces are ruining the game as much as diving if you ask me. It's so prevalent that there is no way that referees are missing it so why is it allowed to continue?
