The official Off Topic Chat Thread now known as "Beefy's Corner".

Firstly, the normal rules of the site apply. You cannot start a discussion about contentious issues, Politics, Religion, or show Porn Etc. The flip side of this arrangement is that there will be a much stricter enforcement of the "no going off topic" rule which has always been the case anyway, on the other threads.

Secondly, the normal rules of the Saints board will apply, (except that you can go off-topic obviously). This is not going to become a "private GC Lite." Personal insults will not be tolerated, and neither will goading someone to draw them out. The whole tone of this board has suffered in the past as differing views have been aired and there have been far too many angry exchanges. Vitriolic exchanges are not welcome and will be dealt with as appropriate. If you have fallen out with a poster put him on your ignore list and don't rise to the bait!
If you see content which is not appropriate, please send the mods a PM rather than fronting up the poster and let us deal with it to save a bun-fight. Lastly, if a thread is closed or deleted by one of the Mods, and you have some good reason that it should reopen, then send us a PM with your reasons. Simply re-posting the same thread again to be confrontational would be considered very provocative and would probably lead to action being taken.

It would seem that large numbers of posts and subjects causes problems for mobile phone users to access this site.
So from time to time it will be necessary to close the threads down and start a new one.
We need you guys to let us know when the site becomes difficult to access so that we do not change over unnecessarily.

I have the honour of placing the first post. Now what shall we discuss?

How about your most embarrassing moment. Something that really made you cringe! Like sitting on a toilet on a packed commuter train and forgetting to check that the door locked sign was switched on!:emoticon-0102-bigsm

How about the football team that turned up for a game last night and found that they had left their kit behind?

Am I right in saying they will be fined heavily for that?..........Someone else did that did they not a couple of season ago I seem to remember and they were crucified by the league with a heavy fine. Which you will appretiate for a lower league team is hard to find.

Again just a peice of news I caught just as I was switching off the Car radio. I understand the game was delayed as well as the forgotten shirts. Anyone know who the team was......It wasn't Dagenham and Redbridge was it. I am sure they did something similar once. Just forgot to put the bags of kit onto the coach or some such. Delayed the game by about 5 minutes if I recall as someone had spotted the bags about a couple hours later realised what had happened and shot off after them and got there just as the game was meant to start. Forgive me if it wasn't them I just remember it happening.

I just remembered that I ran home from Jesters last night, about 3 miles. That's kind of embarrassing.

Only to an untrained ear mate........There is a heck of a difference in our accents to the west country. Hampshire accents are different to Wiltshire and Dorset. Unless you are like me and have a mix of all three....<laugh>. In reality probably West Devon and South West Somerset, are truly what you would call west country...or what we would probably say were west country accents. That would be most likely Cornish the true West country Accent.

I don't have an accent at all. I sound like Sgt Wilson in Dads' Army. It is the rest of you that have accents.

I am a Thames Valley/Home Counties boy and I have been taught to speak properly.

That, dear Sir, is a matter of opinion. To me, all English accents sound strange  (very cute on a bird though!!!)

TeddyBear, that's a very detailed explanation and I thank you for it.

Here's another one: How come people in Norfolk sound the same as the West Country even though there's a big swathe of Middle-England in between the two? I asked the Canaries before but they told me to fu*k off.

Again to you it probably does sound similar........the way you spot the difference is the actual language they use! Now that is not so easily explained...well for me anyway. Anyone got a light boy?.........(A very famous saying that originated in the Norfolk broads) <laugh> Probably not to you Swords...... unfortunately or to some of our younger element.........

You're totally correct mate. I'm sure there's a noticeable difference and I'd see that if I lived in the respective areas for a bit.

Is it generally accepted then, that the area between East Anglia and the West but also above London, is where the English accent we all hear in the films comes from?
Where the "Queens English" is spoken, so to speak? You know like, Posh?

Here in Dublin, when you cross the Liffey and head south, the accent is very posh indeed and they can often sound like they're from the Home Counties themselves!

Why is the UK in the EU? It's the worst thing to ever happen to us in ages.

The EU is terrible. It's made Greece, Portugal and Spain what it is today. They just took away their notable and important industries. In Portugal for example, the fishing industry was one of great importance, but subsidiaries from the EU meant that the fisherman destroyed their boats for money in exchange. The agricultural industry was an important one as well, but the same principals were implemented as well, subsidiaries. There is nothing in Portugal, only tourism and that is going away from the country as well due to the introduction of the euro. Prices went up and wages stayed the same, it keeps going up all the time and the escudo was far less valuable, this meant that you could get much more value for you money if you came from the UK for example, everything was much cheaper.

We only need to have peace in Europe that's the key. We must always have peace in Europe. We shouldn't have Germany control countries again, how disgusting. The worst country in Europe is controlling it again, it's crazy.

I can't wait for the day that the EU breaks up! We need to keep countries unique and not all the same like the powers at Brussels want. They want one country in Europe, it's like the USSR all over again.

The UK is just wasting money on poor countries like Portugal and Greece, plenty of British people go to these countries on holiday anyone to give them money. We are kings really.

Am not sure what you would consider posh........that probably would come from the Broker belt... East Kent and Surrey perhaps maybe north Sussex. (Or as you said the Home counties of England)

Still think this action is slightly pointless, no offense.

Closing an off-topic thread so it can be replaced by.... an off-topic thread?
