Well done to the plucky West Yorkshire outfit tonight on their hard-earned win against Premiership Everton(*)

Another big scalp in this competition which seems to throw up 'surprises' with monotonous regularity.

When I was a kid, lower league teams would dream about beating Leeds, who were once a big name club for a few seasons.

Now it seems the boot is very much on the other foot and Leeds fans now (perhaps unknowingly, perhaps not) accept the role of minnow club when playing a second-string Premiership side.

    The transformation is complete........

    (*= albeit reserve/youth team larkers)

This might have been a better wind up on the Leeds board, eh?

It's insane how frequently they beat better opposition in the cups compared to their league form.

Just like it's insane how bad we are in cups compared to our league form.

The free kick for that second goal was a total dive though, Austin made sure to get past the man before hitting the deck and doing his best to make it in the area like Diouf did against us.

First of, cheers for the congrats. It was a hard earned win and one I think they deserved.

    * And they probably had as many reserves out there as we did <ok>. Kenny, Peltier, Drury, Green, Norris, Varney and McCormack where all not in the team which would normally start.

And I accept the role of being lower league club than Everton, ofcourse (I'm not gonna use the word minnow) and that we were definitely not expected to even get a draw let alone a win. But we'll be back there someday.

And ISTPLT, that was not a dive from Austin. He may have gone down a little easier but there was still a decent amount of contact and it was still a free-kick. A Hull City player woulda done the exact same thing

You can try and dress it up if you like, but no, a Hull City player wouldn't have done the same thing at all. If anything that's been our weakness for years, we're too soft and too polite.

The thing I didn't like about it was that he went down just after getting past the defender, as if all he wanted to do was get in front and then go down while the defender is in an awkward position behind him. Very clever.

Crazy that his horror tackle on Faye wasn't even a foul but that was. Not really comparable I know but just shows how different things are between us and you.

No way, lets get one thing straight. He didn't dive. That was a free-kick all day long

There was a decent amount of contact and enough for a free-kick. Coleman didn't get any of the ball and some of the legs of Austin. Austin perhaps may have been able to try and stay on his feet but instead didn't attempt it and why would you, he helped himself to the ground. Thats not dirty play in my eyes, thats just smart.

And are you seriously going to be so naive in saying that a Hull City player wouldn't do that. Wouldn't win a free kick? Instead they get there legs hacked off and there hopping around still going for the ball. He coulda by rights fallen down into the penalty area and gone for a pen instead but didn't.

Aren't Green, Norris and McCormack long term injuries and wouldn't have featured in this or a league game anyway, meaning from your list there were only 3 first team players missing

Bit of clutching at straws here. Everton made six changes from their victory at Swansea, one of them being a goalkeeper. So only half their team were 'reserves'. They then brought on Pienaar, Jelavic and Neville who are very much first team players.

They still had a side out full of players who let's face it, we would love to have in our team but reserves or not a win is a win and we'll take it.

Thanks for the congrats too, it's very much appreciated........

Thought everton deserved to win, Leeds were terrible and just kept cheating all the time. There has been misjustice in the footballing world.

    Well 7 - 3 is actually 4....

And thats not including Dom Poleon that started against Forest as well who didn't play. And equally Everton made 5 changes to the side that beat Swansea 3-0. So if your claiming that Everton played a quote "reserve/youth team larkers" then I claim that Leeds were as well :)

Dom Poleon has only ever started one game for Leeds United, bit strong to be calling him a starter, he's every bit a reserve trying to break into the first team.

Completely agree with you there mate, players of all clubs will go down under contact, it's not a reflection on the player or the club more an indication as to the state of the game. Our players would and indeed have done the same.

Well done on your win, what a difference a week makes eh?

Yes I am saying that. A Hull City player would have used the good position to get a ball in and try to score, not to get a free kick. A free kick should be a consolation for being fouled, not something you deliberately choose to have as an alternative to playing the situation properly. I say the same thing when you see a striker who is 1-on-1 with the 'keeper boot the ball away and await the inevitable contact from the keeper while the ball is trickling off the pitch.

Simply not true, granted some teams are worse for it than others but Hull City players 'win' themselves free kicks too. I like to think we're one of the more honest teams but you either don't watch our games or are very selective in what you see if you think our players don't do it too.
