Suso was a breath of fresh air when he came on as a sub. He took United by surprise, no wonder their players wanted to kick him up into the air.
Stevie is always on the same wave length as really good players. Him and Owen had the same almost telepathic understanding as Macca and God had in their pomp. Later he forged a similar understanding with both Torres and Alonso. He works well with Suarez, and now similarly does with Allen. Quality players almost always gel with each other.
There is a reason why Torres is struggling at Chelsea, they don't have the players around him to get the best out of him. It doesn't take a genius to work out that in order to get the best out of Torres, is to play Mata in a free role just behind him with two offensive players either side of him too. However Di Matteo seems to think that the best option is to have Lampard behind him. In terms of mobility, a dustbin is more mobile than Lampard.
I think the system is probably partly to blame. Hazard and Mata playing will certainly help Torres in the long run. But Torres is the epitome of a confidence striker. IMHO, if he gets some confidence back, and Chelsea get the system right, he'll be a massive asset once more.
Rumour is both Sahin and Henderson start tomorrow, but Suso doesnt.Rumour is Suso is going to START in the Shelvey position v Norwich
Yeah, only a matter of time before they figure that out. I still think they'll finish 3rd behind both Manc clubs. They have the potential to do better, perhaps, but I still think they'll hit a bad patch during this season, whereas I think the Manchester clubs will be more consistent.
I prefer when people don't mention Suso because I get "Su-so-Studio" stuck in my head every time I read his name.
Torres is a place who thrives on running into space. With Chelsea's system, they have a few players who are high up the pitch, therefore it restricts the open space for Torres to run into and plus he has lost that bit of pace. It does show that Torres is a very one dimensional striker - but when he was on form, that one dimension was truly devastating.
But we push and pressured opposition high up the pitch when Torres got his goals for us, that style is better for him! I have always maintained that his pace was a good weapon but it was his acceleration that was so explosive and damaging to the opposition
Crespo, Shevchenko and Torres. Chelsea, It's where the worlds best strikers go to completely fail and ruin their reputation only to be replaced at the next transfer window.
He was brilliant at running in behind defences. Now, he doesn't have that space to run into. But agreed on acceleration
He was great at running in behind the defences but that is more for counter-attacking, something we was very good at when the opposition had a set-piece. Mascherano was instrumental in this too. However, when we had the ball the opposition would drop deep because of Torres so he had to make space in other ways. He used to always stop the ball almost dead before a quick burst to give himself half a yard to shoot. IMO, this was his best weapon and this is what he seems to be lacking from his game after all the injuries
