Try Scotland, this is what contributes to them having the highest heart attack rates in Europe (and probably the world!).

Not quite Waterson, but effective all the same. The legend of Kingston upon Hull.

    Personally I couldn't give a bugger a'rm a man!

Peas are the most disgusting things I've ever seen included with a fish and chips meal in all honesty. Furthermore, I prefer the chippies in Brid anyways, Jacks is better than any chippy I have had in Hull.

Ha ha mate iv'e got ya ! Me mam used to send me dad out on his bike,to that place when we we're kids on Orchard park. I seem to remember, the bloke was Jewish, which is fitting really as the Jews brought fish&chips to Blighty in the first plaice. Greenland's is now a Chinese,Man Wah house.

Anyway, the prize for pointing out the bestest chippy of all time,go's to you Vic. Awesome Haddock, glorious pattys, the works...Me dad always complained about the queues though, moaning owld git,get on on yer bike (Mams words). <ok>

Can't be arsed with queues at the Chippy. Went to Whitby recently and that one in the centre there has all the tourists flocking to it.

    Put me right off.

    Yeah that's the one.

I dunno what the one we ended up at after that- it was part sit down restaurant and part takeaway near the Marina. Across the way was a cafe/ bistro called Cosa Nostra, which i'm sure is the real Italian name for the Mafia.

I didn't get owt from either on principle... because i'm a tight fisted sod.

The place was spotless, and the last time I was in the Man Wha House,a couple of years ago, it still had the original frying range (unused).
I used to bike from Fairfax Ave, with my "order", written by my Mam, to Greenland Fisheries, 35yrs ago.

Best fish and chips at a restaurant I have ever had was at the Magpie in Whitby when we visited Hull for a few days in 2010. Running it a close second was the Whitby Quayside. Best fish and chip shop fare was at 149 in Bridlington.

Best fish and chip meal I have ever had was on my first visit to Hull in 1977 at my sister-in-law's house where I was served home cooked Haddock, Patties, Scraps and Chips. The chips were cooked 3 times to give the perfect soft fluffy inner and the crunchy crisp outer. Beef dripping was the cooking medium. My husband in his student days worked in the kitchens of Bridlington and Scarborough fish/chip restaurants and my sister-in-law used cooking and preparation tips he gained from those experiences.

Many of you probably wont remember the Gainsborough. In its hey day it had 3 floors. It was basic, clean and the fish and chips were brill. Freshly cooked with tea and bread and butter it was real value for money. I used to push the boat out sometimes and have halibut and it was, without doubt, one of the best fish I have ever eaten.
