Walcott is too small to play lone striker and we don't play 4-4-2 so i don't see how he'll ever play there
I think playing Theo up front tomorrow is a good call. Put Giroud in one of the wide positions and say tell him that hes there to play for the teams and as hes out wide not to worry about trying to score. Less pressure might help aand as its against lower league opposition he should still be able to do a job there.
For Theo to succeed as a striker we would need to change our formation. (possibly to a 442) The problem with doing that is that a midfileder would have to lose his place in order to accomodate this. As a lone striker I dont think he has the body strength or close control to be able to hold the ball up. Is Theo good enough to warrant a complete tactical shift?
Defoe does alright but his size definitely does disadvantage him. Messi is incredibly strong on the ball. I used to wonder how a man of such short stature seemed to block off such physical onslaughts. Then I read somewhere when he took growth hormones as a teenager, that was similar to taking steroids. Make what you will of that but it does seem to make sense.
Walcott doesn't have the strength, technique or nous to be a lone striker. He still makes the wrong decision far too often. If he wants to play up front, then let him go to a championship club and play up front. If not, then he does OK on the right of a front 3.
The growth hormones were to improve his height he would have apparently been 4'11 different to steroids which help muscle growth. Messi has ridonkulous close ball control, being short having a low center of gravity as well as having a very storng lower body much like aguero who is also hard to knock of the ball. If theo had a third of Messi's control he would be much better at holding the ball up but apart from that Theo has a body built for speed (although his strength has improved over the seasons) while Messi is built for a combo of strength, speed and control. Also messi is the best player in the world on his day theo is a good/great player.
Honestly if we play without Giroud the front three always seem to swap positions so he should get time upfront as they all rotate.
TW:" I’ve said that I’ve always wanted to stay at Arsenal. I love playing for the club, hopefully something can be sorted. It’s not going to happen any time soon, you’ve just got to patient. It’s frustrating at the moment but it’s one of those things that’s not going to happen overnight. If it came to it, and the club had to sell me, I would be disappointed. But I’m quite positive that something can happen soon. Makes perfect sense, no? Read more: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...ar-will-never-join-Twitter.html#ixzz27aeQktOx
Playing Giroud in one of the wide positions makes even less sense than playing Walcott through the middle. It's bad enough that you are being kicked from your primary role by a a bloke who is knee high to a grasshopper and hasn't won a header in 2 years, but then to be stuck out in a position that you are physically unsuitable for and told to help defend when you have never really done that, except to head away corners, is adding insult to injury. If someone would come up with one good reason why Walcott is going to be any more successful getting in behind the backs from the middle as opposed to the wing, then I would be more willing to accept him there, but organizing the whole team around him on the off-chance he will be able to score a goal or two seems strange.
