Fair point. I know he'd be a gamble, and my main reservations would be his wage demands and his attitude. If he curbs his greed and applies himself, he might be a good signing. I'm not totally sold on the idea myself, but could possibly see the benefits, maybe.
Walcott has said its not money he's after, he just wants to be played in a central role. Wenger has been promising him this for the las 5 years. He even though he would get it when Henry left. In my opinion a Walcott/Suarez partnership up front wouldn't be bad.
Would certainly be interesting with Walcott and Suarez up front. Pace and trickery, respectively. Real handful for defenders. I'd still like another striker, though. One injury and the whole goal drought problem would be resurrected - providing the signing helped in that area in the first instance.
How about Llorente for £12 million? He's heading towards the last few months of his contract and come January, its the buyer that has all the cards. Imagine if we could land Walcott and Llorente for say £22 million? We would have possibly £35 million worth of talent for nowhere that amount in outlay. The owners did say the money was there for the right players.
I've posted before on Llorente. I don't understand the interest. We got rid of a similar player in Carroll because he didn't fit in with BR's system, so why sign Llorente. He's taller than Carroll, has a better touch and scoring record; but who's to say Carroll wouldn't grow into that role himself, as he's 4 years younger than Llorente. I'm not saying Llorente would be a bad signing I'm just saying it would be ... inconsistent. I'd much rather we re-negotiated with Damiao, or a similar type of goal scorer.
The only reason I wouldn't mind Walcott is because we might struggle to attract better players - has big club experience, Champions League experience, can score goals and grabs assists. I raised my concerns about his game intelligence. To be honest, I rather we didn't waste £10m+ on overrated British players. There is a lot of quality in the European market which is cheaper as well. We now have a good scouting dept in place and hopefully they will find a few gems!
Llorente has a better chance of making an instant impact as he is older, more experienced and at his peak. What type of striker is Damiao? I dont really know much about him. And whilst I admire and respect Rodgers's stance on paying high wages for players who don't deserve it, but if we want to attract top class talent (especially foreign), then I'm afraid we will have to splash out a little bit.
He's a very good prospect. Tricky, adaptable and can finish. I see him as more of an out-and-out striker, who can lead the line or even be played in a less central role. Here's a few highlights from last year... ...(c. 0:33:00) plus he can show Rooney how to do an overhead kick!
Damiao scored 6 goals in 5 games at the Olympics. At the Olympics he played as a wide forward with Neymar through the middle. In that video there are a lot of clips of him coming in from wide positions. I think that would mostly likely be his role, with Suarez in the middle. I'd still welcome him though.
