The wealthy people of Leciestershire make their money in the city but live in the secluded outskirts. The city is really where the money is made.

Again, I haven't seen the list, but we can assume that Yorkshire is divided into North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire.

We come high up on those lists because the richest family in Yorkshire are from Hull, they're 40th on The Times Rich List, unfortunately, they've no interest in football.

There are only three ridings of Yorkshire, East, West and North. South Yorkshire just an invention, a place to dump the bits Notts and Derbyshire didn't want. They're also the bits that get extra European funding due to depravation. I guess it's the ripple effect of being nearer the East Midlands.

Yorkshire scores high, but individually East Yorkshire scores highest, depending on how the survey is structured. Add the high numbers of very wealthy people with the much cheaper cost of living, mix in the proximity to the coast and abundance of Countryside and you'll see why we enjoy people trying to pull the place down so we can keep it as our own precious secret gift from God.

I was brought up to believe that if you can't think of anything nice to say about a place, say nothing.

Leicester: It's not far from Hull. <ok>

You are seriously having an argument about which city has more millionaires?

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football. <ok>

Hull: The only good things said about it are said by people who are from there. <ok>

And Sheffield is in South Yorkshire, which pisses all over Hull in every way.

The number of visitors that stay in the area, such as those at the highly rated Hull University, say you're guessing wrongly and showing your ignorance, but keep up your good work telling everyone your version, we don't want them here spoiling what we enjoy. <ok>

PS 'South Riding' is a work of fiction by Winifred Holtby. The clue's in the meaning of 'Riding'.

As a matter of interest, are you simply referring to Hull, or to the East Riding in general?

Well I lived in Sheffield for four years so I know it's a decent place. Spent a fair amount of time in Leeds too which I quite like (don't tell the Leeds fans I wrote that). Never been to Hull - never had cause to and can't see I ever will, and I go all over the UK in my line of work. I know people that used to live there and have moved to the East Midlands (my former neighbours) and many people that have been there for work reasons. None of anything good to say about the place.

Bottom half though. Leicester and Loughborough both top 20. Thanks for that <ok>

Just trying to say that we can't say Hull University is appalling when it's around mid table. And in regards to the schooling in Hull - Charlie should know well... - the schools that are on the suburbs of Hull get counted in the East Riding instead of Hull when really places like Cottingham, South Hunsley, South Holderness etc should be counted as Hull. If it was that way, Hull would be much higher in the schooling system, but they're only counting the inner city schools.

Lesta, you appear to be criticising Hull despite you admitting to having never been there, and basing your view on what your former neighbours say? Kind of destroyed any credibility your views have.

My cousin lived in Leicester for years, hated every minute of it and couldn't wait to get back to the East Riding. I visited him once and thought it was a dump, but I'm not ignorant enough to suggest that my brief visit to one area of Leicester enables me to form an opinion on the place as a whole <ok>

I wouldn't worry about schooling stats. Essentially, the bigger the city you live in, the more low lives and morons it attracts. That's been the problem with Nottingham over the last 25-30 years. With it's expansion, it's become a worst place to live. I hate the city centre now, it's full of meat heads, mental patience and drunkards. And that's in the afternoon!

Fair enough, can't disagree with that post. Look at L**ds as well... ;)

I have family (in-laws) who live in Leicester and obviously my missus is from there too. When they come down to visit they don't have a bad word to say about either TBH. Whenever I've gone to Leicester for either football matches or family parties of some sort, I can't say Leicester's a particularly bad place. You see 2 different sides to it really when you go for Football or to meet people IMO.

That's basically the point I was making. I have seen one small area of Leicester - that's certainly not enough for me to be able to form an opinion on the place as a whole. Like all cities I have no doubt that there are good and bad areas.

My missus is from Manchester and, until she met me, had never been to Hull or the East Riding. Having now been several times she wants us to move there
