    Result:
    Newcastle U18s 3 Barnsley U18s 0

Newcastle's Academy side ended a late season slump of six straight defeats by beating their Barnsley counterparts at Little Benton on Tuesday afternoon.

United dominated the early exchanges, Aaron Spear twice
testing visiting 'keeper Lukas Lidakevicius with shots from distance. Ryan McGorrigan also saw an effort turned away but as the half wore on, the young Magpies started to lose a little impetus.

Despite seeing more of the ball, however, Barnsley failed to test rookie custodian Jonathan Mitchell and spent most of the half cursing the referee for failing to award free kicks and a 44th minute penalty claim as the half ended scoreless.

But Joe Joyce's side went ahead two minutes after the break when Michael Hoganson played in Patrick Nzuzi who beat Lidakevicius with a good finish.

Then Dan Taylor doubled United's lead after 63 minutes, latching onto a long ball and finding the back of the net via a post.

Taylor got his second and Newcastle's third three minutes later when Ryan McGorrigan's cross from the left reached Hoganson beyond the far post and he laid it back for Taylor to turn and fire into the roof of the net from close range.

Team: Mitchell, Nicholson, Riley, Sayer (Miele 80), Streete, Folan, Spear (Logan 74), Nzuzi, D.Taylor, McGorrigan (Maddison 80), Hoganson.
    Subs n/u: Grant, Smith.

Possibly due to being able to call on the likes of Streete, Folan and Daylor who have had Reserve team experience, It's always nice to end a bad run though and hopefully some of these lads can have big futures at our club I've heard alot of promising things about Nzuzi heres hoping we've uncovered a gem <ok>

Remie Street is the future! He has just joined twitter, so it'll be nice to see what sort of person he is, because although I love Nile Ranger, he is an arsehole!

That's nice to hear. I'd really like a young centre back to come through, who is also a nice person and can be someone people look up to in the dressing room in 10 years time. A future captain!
