Even the kids in the Academy have a diet sheet with a couple of do's & don'ts ,this isn't the seventies where the standard of fitness was lower (for everyone),a new age ,why do you think we've now linked with Swansea University sports department ,sport is science based these days

Have to agree with Dai on this one. Players these days do seem to need to "rest" more.

What`s this with Schechter!!!! pray or play, pray or play. He`s supposed to be a professional footballer not a bloody rabbi, or should there be a "t" on the end of that. What`s he going to be praying for - death to all Muslims, or just the naughty ones? Death to Palestine, Iran etc.

He has a chance to put in a bid for a first team place and what does he want to do, pray. Are we still going to pay his wages, he`s not sick or injured or anything.

Religion should`nt come into football, to some football is THE religion. I`m not religious and I find this appaling, although I respect other people`s views on the subject. But at the end of the day, he is a professional footballer.

Do we play football on Christmas Day? No. You'll have to accept his religion and decision, I'm afraid.

ha ha, something of a caveat after perhaps the most un-pc rant I've seen on here for a while.... made me laugh is all.

It's a shame for the lad as it would indeed have been an opportunity for him to show what he can do, but you can't have a go at him. For him to not respect the rules of his religion would be far worse than us secular types playing on xmas day, they tend to take that very seriously.

If I was manager, I'd play our strongest team at kick off, and hit this motley crew of Crawley town for six, and then make the subs at half time with the game securely in the bag!.................<ok>

religion in football is nothing new. There are players who wont play on a sunday and players who wont play on a religious event and also full teams who wont play on the sabbath (saturday)....Im afraid we have no choice than to respect their religeon as it means a lot to them......

Speak to a sport scientist and they will tell you rest is just as important as training it is all about balance and being supercharged for match-day. Muscles can only naturally rebuild at a certain rate. as bonymaenjack stated "why do you think we've now linked with Swansea University sports department ,sport is science based these days"
