Well it should be up to Hodgson to decide who he wants to play and he picks his team on who he thinks is best regardless of whether he is a nice person or not, unless he is a felon. You could argue Maradonna was not a nice person and I am sure the English media would want him stripped of his position if he had been in the England team however talented he was. It seems judgemental and self-righteous of the FA to get involved, the law courts have already made a decision.

The criminal law courts have made a decision but the onus is so much on those prosecuting in the criminal courts that it was very difficult for them to be able to find him guilty given the he said, she said basis of the case - if you read the judges statement though it is actually quite damning of Terry. Ferdinand can still pursue Terry in the civil courts if he wishes and the FA as a body with its own code of conduct and disciplinary process would be wrong not to, at the very least, have the hearing and give a verdict which should be guilty in the minimum for foul and abusive language - and I believe they had raised a case before the criminal case was risen, it was then put on hold so as not to influence the criminal case.

In terms of them telling Hodgson who to pick, they haven't said he can't pick him, have they? This is Terry acting on the basis he may get a domestic suspension (I think?)

Got to agree on your point regarding Maradona, although if he had had to live under today's media spotlight, I think he would probably have ended up in prison!

THank god the most over-rated centre half in Englands history is finally gone and a dirty piece of scum as well. Only ever made to look good by Rio and Sol for England and Gallas, Desially and Carlvalho for Chelsea...slower than a fuel tanker with the turning circle to match and constantly out of position.

and I thought I was the only one who thought that.

Over rated. Lots of effort admittedly, but against the best he is made to look average.

When you think about it.....I am somewhat surprised he wasn't asked to step down much earlier. His moral character left a lot to be desired. Especially after what he did to Wayne Bridge........Then Ferdinand......Strewth In my young day some one would have put him in hospital truly...as big as he is. I also doubt he would have been able to play football again after wards either.
I hope the FA go to town on him at the hearing I really just do not like the guy........Hope he gets about at least a ten game suspension plus around £240000 fine. Yes I know its a bit ott but hey he is a nasty piece of work........

I have to say that no one can deny Terry's passion for playing for his country...he's old school in that regard, but not a decent person.

I am interested to know why people abhor Terry so much more than other badboys,I expect it is the media hunt that he has been under. I mean a few years ago he won some silly accolade such as Dad of the year.He slept with Bridge's girlfriend yet Giggs was married & did something similar & he won sportsman of the year; we look fondly on Vinnie Jones even though he was foul & abusive. Its strange really how we see these things in black & white as good or bad characters.

I agree - i find it odd that quite a few people on here seem to have it in for Terry on the basis of what the press tell them about the guy. There are so many other footballers, and ordinary blokes to be honest, that have done much the same thing yet do not get the bad press that this chap does.
IMO Terry has been a very good centre back for England - not great as he has been in a mediocre team during his international career. During the recent european championships he was Englands best player imo - and he at least gave it everything he had in each game.
Even this business with Anton Ferdinand - it appears to have been blown way out of proportion by do-gooders and every self-righteous person in the country - yet so many other footballers, many foreign and many black players have defended him and insist that he is not a racist. If he was a nasty racist then the FA etc should throw the book at him, but it seems very uncertain to me if he really is. Seems more like another incident between two foul-mouthed professional footballers, like many of them appear to be.

Don't know why this is taking two days. It's a case of he said this, you said that. There seemed to be few witnesses in the court case. Will be based on lip reading video...which won't reveal tone which affects meaning. Not a Terry fan, but still think the FA should have only conducted this hearing if there had been no court case or he had been found guilty. Once he was found innocent (or unproved) the whole thing should have been closed.

Do you mind me asking why these two reach hero status for you? I'm interested to know why.

I didn't like vinnie jones either. I am a bit of a do gooder. I know a couple of people in the game and have heard a couple of opinions that have shaped my opinion. I also have made a judgement about him and that is good enough for me, thanks. Call me judgemental, but I'm sticking to my opinion that he is not a particularly nice man.

I'd rather my son was looking up to a different type of england captain than him. My choice.

I dont wish for my kids to look up to any modern footballer in particular - they mostly come across as being full of themselves to one degree or another. But most of us only know footballers via what we see of them on tv and read about in the press - we dont know the real people behind this exposure.
Rickie Lambert seems a decent chap luckily but who really knows - perhaps it is the way that he has had to fight his way to the top over many years in lower leagues that has shaped his personality.
I see that Theo Walcott had quite a lot of complimentary things to say about JT last night, particulary when he first got into the England squad. Its an odd world.

Not how things work nowadays. First you stand trial as "innocent until proved guilty" then if that goes wrong, you stand trial as guilty till proved innocent. The whole thing is a media circus. I'm not sure I would accuse Terry of being a "nice" person, or being averse to using foul and abusive language, but on that score most of the Premier League players (and many managers) are "guilty"

I keep hearing that these fellows are role models...hmm. I'm interested to know if the criteria for choosing the next Archbishop of Canterbury will be that he has a hard tackle and is good in the air?
