    ------Jaskelainen

    Demel--Collins--Reid--O'brien

    --Diame--Noble--Nolan

    --Vaz'Te--Cole--Taylor

This is the side they fielded Vs Sunderland(22nd) and Norwich(15th), with Carrol for Cole being the only change Vs Fulham(1st).
In both of their previous 2 fixtures all of Taylor/Vaz'te/Cole have been subbed for Benayoun/Jarvis/Maiga at some point.
By all accounts Norwich should have beaten them, and Sunderland should have lost to them.
So far the hammers haven't scored away from home, and have displayed two loss-meriting performances in those games, Vs Swansea and Norwich.

I've got some questions for the not606 masses:

    1) So far, west-ham have committed more fouls than their opposition in every game they've played this season.
    a) Mark Clattenburg is reffing the game, will this have any effect on proceedings?
    b) Will our more skillful players benefit from gaining lots of free kicks, or just end up being fouled out of the game by the dirty hammers? does it make taraabt a more attractive prosect for selection with his foul drawing ability?

    2) Looking at their lineup, are there any obvious weaknesses we could exploit somehow? Obviously our selections are partially dependant on how things go in the upcoming Reading fixture, but i'm wondering if 1 on 1 there's anywhere where we already think we can gain an advantage.

    3) Their most impressive performance of the season was the 3-0 against Fulham when Carrol was playing. Has anyone got any idea whether he'll be fit for the game, and if so, how we'll deal with him? It may be entirely a coincidence that their best game coincided with his inclusion, i'm not sure.

This post is basically an admission of my own ignorance on all of the above, so any opinions would be appreciated!

Attack, Attack , Attack, Attack! We can stuff them 4 - 0 or so if we get this lot, or similar, fit and in form, and put them out:

    --------------------Cesar---------------------
    Dyer--------M'bia----------Nelsen------Traore
    ---------------Granero----Ale----------------
    ------Cisse---------Adel----------------Hoillet
    ----------------------Zamora

I'm guessing AJ, Ferdinand, Favio and Bosingwa won't be fit.

I remember after the Chelsea performance you wanted to make changes Oslo, and i said i didn't think we should- because the team performed well, and our play was improving as a result of the gelling a consistent lineup yielded. We stuck with the same team for spurs, and as a result displayed the best performance of the season, worthy of 3 points.

    --------------------Cesar---------------------
    Dyer--------M'bia----------Nelsen------Traore
    ---------------Granero----Ale----------------
    ------Cisse---------Adel----------------Hoillet
    ----------------------Zamora

I'm just wondering whether the highlighted players are there because they'll improve our performance still, or just because they're attacking?
Imagine if the team you listed played against West Ham, and played well, but afterwards i suggested we should drastically alter that lineup for our next match. Wouldn't you say "no! Why would we do that? They did well".

I'd also add that the last time we saw cisse/adel/hoillet on the same pitch was against Swansea.. :p

You're right about the Swansea game, but MH admitted that he got the formation and tactics totally wrong in that one. He played 4-1-4-1 with Taarabt playing virtually in front of the back 4....totally out of position.
I would play Oslo's formation, but I would swap Cisse for Park. We must get our flair players onto the pitch and creating goals at home....simply have to imo.
West Ham will line up pretty much as you show, in a 4-5-1. They'll be hard to break down so we'll need as much creativity as possible.

We've conceded more fouls than any other side so if that continues will we be stifling them or just giving them more set pieces for long balls to Carroll?

We still didn't get ANY points though, and there is all the more reason to be offensive at Home to WHU than Spurs away. I don't really take this hair gel sh*te that far either - Hughes was forced to make many changes Sunday. Hill, Dyer and Hoillet all came in and did very well, with little hair gel that I could see! Though, I agree a basically settled side is an advantage. Surely an in form Traore is a better LB than Onouha? -I think he is at least as good as him defensively and better going forward! I think Cisse and Adel in form are better offensively than Park and SWP. The player I would like to see included if back fit and in form is Diakite, and he would be a good replacement for one of the front 4, perhaps away to West Brom, if not Hammers, when we may want to toughen and speed up our midfield.

Regarding Swansea, we probably were better going forward the first 20 minutes or so than we have been since except for our best periods yesterday. We were Greened against Swans.

    They've got a big back 5:

    Jaskeleinan 6'4
    Collins 6'4
    Reid 6'3
    Demel 6'2.5
    O'brien 5'11

Vaz'Te/Cole/Carrol are all 6'2.5+ as well. Could be a tricky evening for set-pieces..

I agree we can be more attacking Os, just think the lineup you'd mentioned is too attacking, and it's messing with a fomula thats starting to work. Onouha for Traore and park for cisse and i'm with you though ;)

    -------------Jussi----
    Demel--Reid--Tomkins--JOB
    -------Noble----Diame----
    -Yossi----Nolan--------Jarvis
    ----------Carroll (if fit)-----

Is the most likely line-up if that helps your thread

With that size maybe we will need Nelsen and Hill at CB again!

    Cheers Bzzz :)
What's the latest on Carrols injury?
I heard Diame was MOM Vs sunderland, who else should we be particularly wary of?

    * Could do Oslo! But if Mbia's fit, he's 2.5 inches taller than Clint + a lot heavier. Hill definitely likes a defensive header though

Looks a good side to me. If Hughes plays 4-4-2 against that we'll struggle!

Didn't play 4-4-2 do you mean? No, we didn't, we played 4-4-1-1 which is 4-5-1 when we lose the ball. Need to attack against West Ham....no good just being solid....we need to win!!

Another question for the West Ham game....how come they've only got the top tier? Very surprised with that.

Super OP Grifter <ok> Great thread that will provide plenty of food for thought.

I think WH weak part is defence and GK. Especially Demel should be got at, has at least one mistake in him pr game.

Hill and Nelsen should be kept imo, good game yesterday and should love the aerial bombardement from Allardyce' troops.

Very encouraged by Hoilett's display against Spurs, should keep his place.

Park has been fantastic, doesn't get the recognition his performance has deserved. Pass completion and ball retention second to none, absolutely vital to both our attack and defence.

SWP is the only one imo that should be changed. Not because he's played bad, just that I don't think he's suited to this game. He is perfect against the better sides when we lead or are deadlocked. Most natural replacement for me is Adel, he has got to get a start soon and there is no better place than Loftus Road in a London derby. He's not #10 for nothing.

Will Dyer play? He'll get plenty of stick from the WH fans, but I think he'll thrive on that and put in a solid performance. Just hope he doesn't go down with an injury in front of them, that would be devasting.

Are you more negative than I remember?

West Ham refused the full allocation , believe it or not.

Isnt he still out for weeks? They dont have a good side so it should be a win for us.

As said above, we have the lower school end for this game.

Point taken. Maybe I am being a tad negative. I just want to get the season going and start to get the wins our much improved squad look more than capable of getting.
Can't believe West Ham aren't filling the away end. What the **** is all that about?

I cant take the results so far bar the swansea one, however I will be well annoyed if we dont get 3 points against them, this should be the springboard for us to fly up the table in the next 7-8 games.

Is there a big difference between 442 and 4411 perform? I've always just though of the latter as the former with a bit of a twist

Highlights of West Ham V Sunderland (probably doesn't tell us a lot)
