4th place was rendered meaningless last season. In essence the top 4 teams are the teams that qualify for the CL, IMO. Chelsea are a top 4 team, but that's just my opinion, I think most would agree but I don't know tbh. Even when Barca finished 3rd they were still rightly considered a top 2 team in Spain.
i can't believe there are humans alive that are so stupid as to not get this. Cups aren't done on a "top 4". No one would deny that last season Utd and City were the top 2. If they drew each other in the first round of the cups and Utd won both does that mean city are not top 4 because of their cup performances? Do me a favour. Morons. The current "top 4" as judged by the last fully completed season are: 1 - City 2 - Utd 3 - Arsenal 4 - Spurs This isn't even a discussion. Thats it, that IS the "top 4". Similarly, man city are the champions. They didn't lose that because Liverpool won the league cup. FFS.
It's so simple I hardly think it's worth me spelling it out again. Top 4 is not an opinion, it's based on the final league standings. You can talk about other things, like who's the biggest 4 clubs, who had the best season and the rest all you want just stop saying we're not a top 4 side
Anyone else reeling in shock with the news that DL agrees with Bloo on this. This has rocked my world to its very foundations, I am now questioning everything I once believed.
Guess it's a matter of perspective. Top 4 in the Prem' last season you were. One of the top 4 teams in the country you aren't. Who's to say that only the Prem' result defines whether you are top 4 or not? Surely the bigger picture is more representative? I concede that you were better in the Prem' than us last season - that's obvious. But by no stretch of the imagination are you more a top 4 team than us. And let's forget top 4 we are top 2 - we are far and away the second best team in this country in this Millennium. At the end of the day we are way more successful than Spurs, certainly in this century which is about as far back as I would go for teams to bear a remote resemblance to players still playing today / just finished their playing career. Us - CL x 1, PL x 3, FA x 5, LC x 2, CS x 3. You - LC x 1. Objectively, who's the best team there?
Fundamentally there is 1st place and then everybody else. United 2nd on merit because they tied with 1st on GD, Arsenal for qualifying for the CL and then Chelsea for qualifying for it. 4th place was rendered irrelevant due to an English team outside the top 3 winning it therefore Chelsea took that place. All bias aside I never once believed Chelsea were genuinely a top 3 side when we finished 3rd in the 98/99 season. To earn that right you have to establish yourself in that position as Chelsea, United and Arsenal have done over the years by qualifying for the elite European competition and City more recently by winning the Title and finishing top 3. I don't expect others to agree it's just my opinion. I'm quite confident if you went up to a random football fan and asked them how they think the top 4 will get on this weekend they'd list Chelsea but not Spurs. You are only as good as your last game.
This is where you are spot on in my view. I disagree with you that the Millenium business counts. In 2001 Leeds were SF finalists. The barometer isn't (or should not be) how you do in one competition, at genuinely big clubs it's how you do in all 4. I'd liken it to Barca/Madrid now. In Catalonia and other parts of Spain (even Madrid) the common conception is that Madrid are not better than Barca as they failed to win the CL. Who honestly considers Madrid a better team than Barca? I completely disagree with your need to compare trophy hauls of the past 7 years. With respect, what Chelsea won 6/7 years ago under Mourinho has no relevance now. Spurs are a much better side, both teams have completely different squads.
I didn't even know Bloo was a Chelsea fan up until I read your comment and read through his last posts.
Not relevant. My reaction was because you agreed with what he said, not because he was a Chelsea fan, but because his comments agree with your views. Of course you were going to agree with him.
The last 2 pages of this thread now read like a massive wum and i will be treating it as thus and ignoring. No-one can seriously believe the ****e being spouted here.
Fair enough then SD. It's clear we (all of us) don't agree on this so with respect we'll just have to agree to disagree. Interesting views though, it's what this forum is all about I guess
Here are some more "views": banana == apple 1 == 2 black == white man city != champions chelsea == top 4 tottenham != top 4
