Nobody has the best car IMO. Different circuits show the strengths of differen teams. In Hungary Lotus had the best car, In Spa it was Mclaren, In Monza it was Ferrari but it was lucky for Lewis that Alonso had problems all weekend. In Singapore it could be Red Bull back at the top with Mclaren and Lotus a close 2nd and Ferrari struggling for pace yet again. Who knows? I think now it epends on who can bring the highest quality of upgrades because one bad package or uprade could prove very costly at the end of the season.
I'd like to see Hamilton win the title, i think if he stays out of trouble and the car doesn't let him down then it's his for the taking. It's been a good season so far with all the different winners but i'd like to see Hamilton will win 2-3 more races and the rest on podiums to see him win the title. fingers crossed
According to Button, Alonso or Vettle - but I'm thinking a Mclaren 1-2 in Japan will change the odds a little!
For Lewis to be back in the title hunt he needs to win the next two races AND hope his team mate comes in second AND hope Webber, Kimi and others start finishing ahead of Alonso and Vettel. I can see Lewis taking the next two races, I can see Button finishing second in one of the next two races but I can't see the others taking (big) points away from Alonso and Vettel. So for me, title is a two horse race, DNFs are just too costly to come back from at this point of the season, esp. when the guys you are fighting for the title are bagging big points in your absence!
Or just Alonso.. Redbull and McLaren are gifting a lot of points to Alonso this year, I predict another DNF for Vettel and Hamilton in the next race or two, Alonso will be there to pickup the pieces, this isn't going to the wire, I wouldn't be surprised if Alonso wraps it up by or at the GP in Texas All the above is uber-reverse psychology, I’m hoping it goes down to the wire in Brazil with a handful of points covering the top drivers..
Good post, Jonny. Alonso is very much in the driving seat now. All he need do is keep finishing somewhere in the points. I really do not think he'll need to win another race â although of course, he may well do so.
It's very simple Mclaren/Red Bull need Alonso to have another DNF and we need one driver (be it Seb or Lewis) to win the bulk of the remaining races, I can assure everyone that if things continue as they are with one race Vettel scoring big points and the next Hamilton doing the same Alonso will wrap up this title before Brazil If we want a championship finale then it will have to become a two horse race because at the moment Alonso is having it easy as each race his main competitor changes due to massive F*** ups by McLaren and Red Bull
Thanks Come to think of it.. I don't really mind who wins this years WDC, since he hit the scene, I’ve always been a fan of Hamilton, but, I've also had a soft spot for Alonso for being the man to take it to Schumacher and beat him, and ever since meeting Vettel at Top Gear (sorry for the name drop, he may have been acting up to the crowd), but I read him to be a genuine and nice bloke! Agree with you, right now, Alonso and Ferrari are bullet proof, the only way he isn’t going to finish a race is if the usual suspects take him out, but he’s too good/clever to get involved, right now he’s driving like the Wile E. Coyote that actually manages to trap the Road Runner!
We really need to see Alonso have some mechanical problems soon that give him a DNF or 2, he's driven well this season for sur, but has really been gifted his lead by the unreliability of RBR and McLaren, this season should've been a battle between Hamilton and Vettel, instead the whiney brat is gonna steal it.
Hamilton isn't out of it yet. He needs to win the next six races to realistically have a chance, which I think is possible given that he has the fastest car. It won't be easy (Red Bull will be very quick in Korea and Abu Dhabi and at any time rain could spoil an easy McLaren 1-2), but Ferrari aren't quick enough at the moment. I'd say if we have one more race where Hamilton doesn't beat Alonso (even if that means a double DNF), I think it's game over for Hamilton. The good thing about McLaren's pace is that they should be able to keep Vettel away from the win at most of the remaining circuits. I'm not sure about how quick Red Bull will be compared to Ferrari though. They should be quicker at Korea and Abu Dhabi, I'm not sure about the others. Overall I'd expect Vettel to outscore Alonso in the next six races, but not by more than 29 points, unless Alonso has a DNF. I still regard Hamilton and Vettel as serious title threats, but at the same time I'm not far away from starting early celebrations.
Still a 3 horse race, McLaren has the fastest car and Red Bull has the second fastest car, they just need bullet proof reliability and for Lotus to raise their game with Sauber doing a Canada/Italy. Next race will be interesting.
A bit of ****-stirring on Button's part there, I think. Naturally, he doesn't want the team giving any kind of preference to Lewis.
Or you've both hit the nail on the head? Button with his comments maybe saying to McLaren: "Lewis ain't got a chance anymore so don't you dare think of telling me to defer to him for the rest of the season" Whilst at the same time, being the PR darling that McLaren love, this comment helps deflect questions McLaren maybe asked about their reliability issues? Or…. I’ve had too much coffee and I’m typing out aloud again!
yeah, I read that and thought the same thing, maybe all is not well in team McLaren now Hamilton has matured into the racer he should be and is handing Button his arse a bit more regularly.
