It is well known that humour is regional, but this is the first joke that I can say is truly Queenslander: At a national conference of the Australian Hotels Association, the general managers of Cascade Brewery (Tasmania), Tooheys (New South Wales), XXXX (Queensland), CUB (Victoria) and Coopers (South Australia) found themselves sitting at the same table for lunch. When the waitress asked what they wanted to drink, the GM of Tooheys said without hesitation, "I'll have a Tooheys New." The head of Carlton & United smiled and said, âMake mine a VB." To which the boss of Coopers rejoined, "I'll have a Coopers, the King of Beers." And the bloke from Cascade asked for "a Cascade, the cleanest draught on the planet." The General Manager of XXXX paused a moment and then placed his order: "I'll have a Diet Coke." The others looked at him as if he had sprouted a new head. "Well,â he said with a shrug, âif you ****ters aren't drinking beer, then neither will I."
Haha. Well, as a New South Welshman (only moved to Perth for work), I would have to disagree. XXXX tastes terrible. Mind you, so does Tooheys New. I am a man of refined beer tastes, who has a truly international palette. Asahi or Kirin for me, they are the best beers!
When Castlemain applied to trade mark âPissâ the Australian Patent Office said no to which they replied âf uck". This forced the Office to block out the offending word with XXXX to which the dumb feckers put on their cans. Itâs a true story I tell you
German Krombacher for me. I see the Oktoberfest has started in Munich - two memorable visits during the 70s. One of them was free after the 74 WC competition. Got four semi-finalist and finalists right. Got the final score wrong so Oktoberfest was a consolation prize!!
Most of my work these days is at Munich airport, for Air Berlin. so I do get to sample a great variety of beers, and the best ever is Warsteiner. actually drinking one now in Ellington.
I've been living in Queensland for 6 years now and I still don't get xxxx, it's like fizzy water. However the Townsville Brewery have some awesome beers. They have just released their Oktober Fest beer, it is top class......but it does make you feel a little dusty the next morning if you go for it(as i did on Friday night). Still miss a good Double Maxim though!
