Overall we did a good job, but I feel that Zola's defensive naivety lost us two points. The substitutions were good ones (albeit Doyley should be starting ahead of Cassetti), and he could be onto something with Deeney and Vydra, but changing the shape of the defence is a no-no unless you have nothing to lose. Play 3-5-2 by all means, but don't suddenly decide to do it during a game that you're dominating. I'm not suggesting that Zola should start games playing 4-4-2. Clearly 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 are the formations you want to start off with under his philosophy. But switching to it was a no-brainer today. Pudil and Doyley are both competent full backs, who will get forward if told to (with varying degrees of success) and do their best to track back if something goes wrong. Hall and Nosworthy each have a decade's worth of experience of playing in a back four. Murray and Yeates are both used to being asked to do their own donkey work out wide (Murray does it better than Yeates). I don't like the idea of a teenager playing the anchor role, but Chalobah was on a real high today. Abdi isn't ideally suited to 4-4-2 either, but I'm sure an international footballer can handle 20 minutes of it. Even if he didn't, him struggling is less of a risk than three defenders trying to work out what they're meant to do.
Today was a fair bit better the the last few performances. We were bloody unlucky not to have 2 more. One was saved on the line and Deeney hitting the post. Its an improvment, but yet again a ref who cannot give a penalty. if only the defence was a bit more secure we could push on up the table. Deeney looked as sharp as he was last season and made some fantastic runs, now if him and Vydra can connect then they could be formidable.
Well, the proximity of the gantry to the away fans normally makes them sound quite loud on the radio - but today was the quietest since we last played Scunthorpe, I reckon. That's why I asked.
Both sets of fans were pretty loud. The problem is the acoustics are poor so the noise does not travel. Sitting next to the away fans in the first half I could hear them, but then in the rookery for the second half I could not hear a thing. However given that I have a sore throat and very little voice left, I can say that we were vocal.
It would appear that Deeney had a message for someone on a vest, but the post denyed him the chance to show it.
Just seeen this result, to be fair with our recent form i'd take a point. Vic atmosphere sucks, pero viva los hornets.
Try this. Its picture 21 https://picasaweb.google.com/105047...tySaturdayNpowerChampionship22ndSeptember2012
definitely 'Thank...the second word ends in T... The BC fans were the quiestest of the season so far...we weren't much better to be fair...especially during the first half...our fans picked up the noise levels when Deeney came on...
It was a good game, and probably a fair result, though if you look at the stats, it makes positive reading. So many chances, we should really have won it. There were some very good, stand out performances, notably Forestieri who is fast becoming one of my favourites, Vydra, who though quiet in the first half, went for it once Deeney joined him, Doyley, though not on for long, (i wish he'd start tbh)...Almunia makes a great captain, very happy to see that . We still need to sort out our defense, but there are vast improvements and i'm feeling very positive!
i would have thought that too..someone asked him on twitter but as far as i know there's been no response so far...(was it you? lol)
