Twist it as much as you like, Evans tackle was a red card offence, two footed and studs showing=Red card. That was the point I was making, nothing more, nothing less. The players and managers are made aware of this rule that somehow isn't a rule before each season.??? The refs have set out their stall by (usually) sending players off for two footed tackles, even if it was nowhere near the opposing player and no contact made. Whether you agree with it or not, fans and players interpret it as a rule, it's a shame the refs don't show consistency and/or common sense=leads to confusion.
From the link.... Two footed, stud showing tackles falls into at least one of those categories, you're just being pedantic. Evans deserved a red card, you're just too blinkered to see it/admit it!
You were wrong saying it was in the rules... next. I do think Evans was lucky, but when you look at the angles Evans was not going towards Shelvey and so that may have been why the ref let it go. The angle that Shelvey was coming in at was always going to end up with contact with Evans. As for the penalties, Valencia was definately clipped, whereas the Suarez one was probably not given due to his overreaction and the fact that it appeared that Evans initially got the ball looking at the way the ball went.
I stand by my assessment. The refs are telling the players and managers before each season that two footed/stud showing tackles will not be tolerated and will always result in a red card. I don't care how you dress it up, if it looks/walks/talks like a rule then it's a ****ing rule!
Without wanting to be pedantic, but that photo does not show anything...in that still image it appears that Johnson's hands are not actually on Valencia's back. I remember the photo going around that seemed to suggest that Evra dropped his hand when Suarez approached during the infamous 'the bad man never shook my hand wah wah wah' incident! That was dismissed by most United fans because a still image does not properly represent what happened...now it seems that still images are a real representation of events, how convenient! Anyway, what is more obvious is the fact that Valencia adopted an unnatural position when he went down, his legs moved in a manner that would be impossible if he was actually pushed/fouled. We all know he dived, we all know it happens, we all know it is **** when it decides a game, I just wish people would stop trying to justify it. As for the red card, I think it is time to bring in video evidence to help referees out, no doubt Halsey thought he got it right, but it was extremely harsh and as it has been seen Evans was lucky to escape punishment...such decisions change games and it should be made easier for the refs to get it right. Other than that it was a good game to watch, United were poor for the majority of the game and Liverpool had their usual problems in front of goal...it's a shame the end was marred by the morons who could not respect the occasion.
You cannot tell from that still where his hands are, the fact that it is a 2D image makes it impossible. Anyway, let's not get too carried away with images of 'is it/is it not' a penalty! We all know Valencia made the most of it, his unnatural leg movements give away the fact that he dived, we all know this, we all know people do it, and fair enough it won United the game...but let's stop with the justification of it please...it's embarrassing to read!
If it wasn't a penalty why did Glen Johnson hang his head in utter distress rarther than go and dispute it with the referee? He was in a better position than any of us to know what really happened.
I haven't got a clue why! Maybe he understands that referees never change their minds. Maybe he didn't want to get booked. Maybe he was distressed due to the fact that he was astounded that the referee gave the penalty. Who knows, do you?? Anyway, as I have said, we all know Valencia dived and made the most of it, it happens, he won the game for United due to it, fair enough! Trying to justify his dive however is pathetic in my opinion, I think they call it gamesmanship what he did....I have no problem with that as all teams do it!
I don't know - however, experience tells us that in any game, let alone one of today's maginitude, if a player thinks a penalty has been awarded unfailry his reaction is one of fury. Johnson's reaction seemed to indicate he knew it was a genuine one. You're not going to change your view and, even as a neutral, I won't change mine so let's leave it!
He probably felt the contact. It didn't look like more than a flick from the replay, but I've heard plenty of players say that they felt a solid contact when tackled but it looks like nothing on the replay.
Barca V Real? Don't you have derby's in Landaaan then? Or are you just talking about derby's between real big clubs?
MOTD now. The ref was 10 out of 10. Got everything right. Thats a former Liverpool and Arsenal pundit team.
I will take a win anytime when we are rubbish and when the scousers play their best football ever at Anfailed according to their ******ed supporters on this site. The scousers lose at home when they are playing good football. What will happen when they are playing poorly? Relegation form I say! Shelvey rightly sent off, Suarez the lowlife diving again - thank goodness the ref spotted it and aware of his reputation. Stonewall penalty on Valencia Well done, tiki taka Rodgers... Keep losing ...
