Do you think, with all the new drivers entering F1, that these records will be simply washed away?
How many of those statistics have changed since he left Ferrari? To be honest, now that all the teams run a standard ECU, it's unlikely that any team will be able to give their drivers as dominant a car as Schumacher benefitted from. Most of his stats should be safe, except maybe career points [<- oh, that one!]. Vettel, and possibly even Hamilton, might get close to career wins, podiums, pole positions, fastest laps or longest time between first and last wins.
I wonder how far away the top 3 of now (Vettel,Alonso & Hamilton) are from those records. Some are probably unrealistic but they could be close to some now
Aha! Talk of the devil! Manny, I admire your courage in providing this sport. You are obviously very impressed by Schumacher's statistics. For some people, they prove the misguided belief that this always means 'better'. For consistency, I presume you have considered researching his equally important statistics when matched with Rosberg? These statistics are evidence that Rosberg is considerably better than Scumacher, in spite of not being considered as in the top tier of the drivers he is currently competing with, never mind 'All Time Greats'; thus proving that he is rather ordinary. If you're going to hand pick statistics, you render them irrelevant don't you? It's a bit like tossing a coin and then saying you will ignore anything you judge as anomalous flukes or peculiarities. You see, as all statisticians will tell us, statistics never lie.
All the major ones, and Vettel. Considering Seb is still only 23, I don't think it's out of the question that he'll win six more championships, and with the championships longer than ever that should put him pretty close to the 91 wins. Already he only needs 50 more poles. I think obscure ones such as wins at Indy will stay intact, it's unlikely we'll ever go racing there again. Also wins in a season and consecutive wins will probably be safe, the regulations are designed to prevent that because of that.
Seb has the best chance at breaking the 7 time atm, Lewis a little bit less, Alonso bette hope Ferrari kick into gear this year or next or he will have to settle for 3-4 WDC after his career.
Vettel is very very very quick and in spite of some question marks over his race-craft, has already become World Champion. But I don't think he will top the statistics unless he benefits from a prolonged period of similar advantages. That said, I believe he already has the biggest advantage in current F1, which looks set to remain for some time: Vettel's management appear to have succeeded in making his contract conditional with Adrian Newey. Top move… Hamilton is the other real contender but he could also do with Adrian Newey… I don't think Alonso will do it. He went to Ferrari hoping for similar advantages to Scumacher's era but thankfully F1 has moved on.
I reckon Vettel has a good shot at breaking these. He is young and has plenty of time and "speed" to do this, other than Vettel, Hamilton has a small chance of breaking one or two minor records. But who knows...
http://www.4mula1.ro/formulaone/ind...42eb312c12d100538fa6&idd=778&year=2010&idte=6 Just for a look at his 2010 performance, there is the link But after all the stats, it is still him who won 7 world titles, he didnt win that out of luck. A genius in a car
>>His average finishing position is 10.4 >>His average quali position is 10.2 Pretty good after 3 years away and at 41 years of age. But for this I will be called a fan-boy.
Manny: I think it is a shame that people on BBC606 ever used this term. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a fan and it should never be belittled simply because someone has a different point of view. As I have said before, I admire your stance on this: top man!
Both Hamilton and Vettel are capable and have time enough left in F1 to exceed all records currently set, the problem they have is, how can they assure themselves of being in the right car / team. Unquestionably the setter of some of these so called records drove for teams that held advantages that are no longer available, therefore is much more difficult for current drivers to achieve such results, although it is possible.
Was trying to think what the joke was about and it just hit me..... Alonso likes doing card tricks, am I right?
yep his 2 hobbies are F1 and magic tricks. The aces I was on about are the ones on the back of his helmet
Ohhhhh kk, just when I see Alonso on the screen I have to do my brotherly duty and do seb fingers all over the house. You see I don't get much screen time looking at Alonso's helmet because it's all mind games in this house lol. My old man was trying to wind me up at Abu Dhabi last year: "You watch, Vettel's engine will blow up towards the end and Alonso will be WDC." "Is that blue smoke coming out of vettel's engine? yer it is" "Just remember whoever wins today is still nothing to Rubens Barrichello" "Oh ooooo watch out Kamui is behind vettel, he's going to crash into him!!!" Who needs enemies when you got my family lol.
You've mentioned that a couple of times I think, cosi, which led me to believe it was common knowledge, yet Autosport has only reported it today.
Reckon the vettel-newey combo will carry on until one of them retires. I think Newey wants that driver record which Rory has.
