what is mayo? is that the same as salad cream, or chip sauce as it's known in Holland.

Yip and no, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Plenty of stuff we eat is far worse than cod!

The best is the German or Dutch stuff, but Heinz mayonnaise is just fine. Some people like to smother everything with ketchup, personally I like mayo on chips and salad.

    Salad cream is bloody horrible.

anyone remember when Cutfish was the norm and you had to ask for Haddock. Hadfields on Derry Bank was legendary.

i think cutfish was pollock, but i may be wrong

Anyone recall Mad Monica's (= Monica Fisheries) next to Piper Club?

Everyone thought she was Monica, but it was named after Monica cinema, which became Piper Club. She was nuts - served you, and her silent husband did all the prep....fish, battering, chips in, etc.

Not all Cod has worms it depends on where it is caught. Generally fish that is caught in shallow waters were there is a seal population will be infested with worms, basically they get the worms from eating seal droppings. There is an old fashioned method called candling, which is a table with a transparent top with bright light below the surface (candles were used many years ago) , which shows up the worms in the fillet, which are then removed with tweezers.

Sure it is, my local chippy doesn't get locally caught, shallow water fish (had this discussion with him a while back), so I'm confident its worm free! I still prefer some good German Sausage, which in fact is tonight's fare!

Cod always gets checked, and if there are worms they are removed, so there is no problem to eat it. Freezing the fish does kill them anyhow, and most fish these days in chippies is frozen at sea.

Nothing wrong with juicy worms, in fact most chocolate is 'choc' full of minute insect particles, a tasty treat indeed when you suck on a Deep Fried Mars Bar at Captain Cods

£6.49 isnt exactly Bev Rd value, but thats service stations for you.

Bumped into Laim Rosenior in there too. Tucking into a Burger King he was.

To be honest, one of my best dinners this summer was grilled trout from the river which runs through the woods behind where I live, with fresh peas and new potatoes out of my garden......<ok>

Now see, trout, in theory its lovely, in practice, one sniff of a bone in my mouth and I'm throwing up.

Secondly: peas. What the hell are they for? Small green balls of pointlessness.

I hate it when you go out for a meal and they put a spoonful on as if to say *here you go, here's something free and tasty* when the reality is, they taste like fookall and add nothing to the meal. If peas were a player, they'd be Jimmy Bullard. Get them off my plate ffs.
