I agree, however Vettle has been penalised for a safety car infringement in the past. I think they will just get a telling off, but it's an inevitable situation when the lead driver is allowed to change speed etc.....

That's not how it works with gearboxes, they have to last a five race cycle. It's engines where they get an allocation for the season which they can use as and when they want to.

    Apologies. <ok>

In which case the FIA ought to sort the calendar out so that the three carbreakers don't occur consecutively...

If Vettel gets penalised it will be Spa 2008 all over again.

That was different as he wasn't close enough to the leader.

I am aware of that, I am just saying he has previous - don't think he should be penalised, I just think they should just tighten up the eticate on restarts in general!

I think you are right Smithers, whoever is in P1 should not be given too many responsibilities on a re-start.

If they take the win away... I think i'll throw in the F1 towel. They may as well decide an event by pulling names out of a hat.

    Here's hoping not.

Button is a joke, he is clearly responsible for keeping a safe distance and then wants to blame Vettel? How ******ed can you be?

it's like they're determined to gift the title to Alonso. Why? Why not just let him win it on his own, he's clearly good enough to do it.

I think you are way off on this one. The fact that a leading driver can brake (with no visual aid to the following driver) in an attempt to warm up tyres should not act as an advantage whereby the following driver must keep a distance that makes it impossible to challenge for the lead on a restart! It could also be construed as a brake test - although I personally don't think that was the case here!

By you logic Vettle was a total cretin for taking out Webber on the restart in 2007 or 2008 in the wet behind the safety car then and even more ******ed than Button?

Foolish statement, and you don't know that Button has made a complaint, it maybe instigated purely by the stewards who have Vettle telemetry!

So your not allowed to brake around corners now <laugh>

Seb wanted to brake going into the corner, Jenson believed he could go flat out through it.

Then again the FIA are great at inventing new rules when it involves Seb.

On fire, but even though his lead has been cut, the longer he keeps it well in double figures the less chance anyone has of catching him.

Vettel was very young at that time and it was his rookie season afair and he got penalized too for that incident rightly so.
Err and for your statement that Button didn't complain? Did you even see the race, Button whined after the incident over radio.

Anyway I'm sure I've seen this recently, I think it was Jenson v Alonso, one of them nearly hit the other and nothing was done.

Like I said I don't think it should be considered as a penalty, it's the process that is flawed and around a street track potentially dangerous. Some series have rolling starts, although I am not a fan of that either!

I stress again that i dont think Vettle shoud be penalised, but for Tom to call Button ******ed because of the situation is quie ironic! Again the discussion goes from being about the incident to being about the preference of the driver which (IMO) is poor form. If I recall y is a Lewis supporter so I ort of keys sense.
